When it comes to "artistic success", it's obviously very difficult to know where to draw the line. :)

No, sorry if I was misunderstood.. And I also don't think for an album to be good, it has to have something totally "new" in it.. Just clearing that out in case someone did not get that also..

I can agree with you there. ATS has come the closest but there's years and years of music they've yet to make, all of which will most surely surpass ATS.

Where were you 10 years ago? Reanimation divided the fanbase. So did Meteora. MtM even more so. ATS even more than that. ATS didn't sell as well for a few reasons. #1: Warner pays for marketing. They didn't put as much money into ATS as other albums. #2. Linkin Park are still classified as "rock", and ATS is not a rock album. #3. It's not "Pop", which is why Warner didn't put money into it in the first place.....and all opinions aside, people aren't going to remember LP for any album but Hybrid Theory. They will remember "Numb", "What I've Done", possibly "Shadow of the Day" and "Waiting for the End".

Very true, and the members of Linkin Park obviously agree with that also, judging by recent comments.

At the same time, they've spent the last few years working as hard as they can so as to not repeat themselves. Artistically, for them, there's just no point in doing something they've already done. That's a bit of an understatement, too; they had a sonic identity that they spent two albums crafting. :)

Yes, everything divides the fanbase. That's one of the reasons why the band don't make music to the fanbase's specifications. ;) They know it's impossible to please everyone. Instead, they only work to make music they themselves like.

I also now agree, to some extent, that "A Thousand Suns" won't really be the band's best-known album since I don't think any of its singles have had as much exposure as those from "Hybrid Theory" or "Meteora" across the board. At the same time, it's hardly a forgettable album, especially not among the millions-strong fanbase the band has.

I was not talking to you in that post. I did not quote you there after all.

Before, I asked your age because I really wouldn't have mentioned anynthing if you were like 14-16.I'm not basing knowledge on age, but the ability to think clearly. Also, I would like very much to give you my thoughts on why you're wrong on ATS being so artistic and memorable but it's seriously really late here and besides, this thread is for the new single and we've spammed it enough. If you want to have this conversation with me I'll give you my email adress. Good night.

From a Linkin Park fan (liking 3/4 albums still makes you a fan.)

Actually, being able to criticize the albums as objective as possible is what makes you a fan.. Immediately "loving" whatever they release makes you a blind follower of the band..

Well yes but if you don't like them, it doesn't matter if you're objective or not, you are not a fan XD

    I probably agree with this. There's about a 1% or 2% of the band's output that I haven't liked. :)

Only songs from LP I'll actually say I dislike:

    - In Between
    - Shadow of the Day
    - Robot Boy

There are others I'm just "meh" with, but these ones I can really say I do not like.

And to show how much the LP fanbase differs? One of those songs you listed above is one of my favorite songs the band has ever written ("Shadow Of The Day").

Yeah I know a lot of people really like that song. It's just never sat well with me. I like In Pieces a lot but it seems to be pretty unpopular for the most part.

    My least favorite LP songs:
Robot Boy (worst song they ever made)
The Little Things Give You Away

also, maybe to get some more LP discussion going and to get back somewhat on topic, favorite songs from each album?

    mine-

    HT:
    In The End
    One Step Closer
    Crawling/Papercut

    Meteora:
    Breaking the Habit
    Don't Stay
    Faint

    Minutes to Midnight:
    Leave Out All the Rest
    In Between
    Given Up

    A Thousand Suns:
    Waiting For the End
Iridescent (not sure if it is anymore but it was my second favorite for a long time)
    probably... Wretches and Kings

    5th Album:

    Burn It Down
