I understand that sometimes the F word does give a lot of energy to the song. For example, Blackout would not be so cool without the 'Fuck it are you listening!?' phrase, or trying the ketchup without shouting mothafukka would just be... trying the ketchup. But I remember seeing some guy on the net posted saying how he liked LP (HT/Meteora era) because they were able to deliver the energy without the use of profanity, and I kinda agreed. So, what are your thoughts?
I don't like it generally, it worked in Given Up, Blackout though. "Hybrid Theory does not follow a trend set up by a lot of other bands in that it doesn't contain any curses or swear words. This was because the band wanted to write lyrics honestly and they thought that unnecessary swear words take away attention from the music." The reason there was no cursing in HT and Meteora is because, given the content matter of those albums ("Oh woe is me, I'm being ignored, nobody likes me, etc.), cursing would just be seen as incessant whining. Well, more whiny than what's already going on in those two albums. Cursing fits in the latter two albums as the lyrical content is more mature.
He said fuck in Reading My Eyes. Also, they should slap a fuck or shit every two or three songs, just for the sake of it.
In the past, Shinoda and Chester have insisted that the absence of profanity in those songs wasn't the result of any conscious decision to not use them but, rather, just the way things turned out. They've probably contradicted that in more recent responses to the question :* Obviously, we can't question the fact that those albums' lack of swearing was a big part of why they proved to be so accessible.
I like my music to have massive amounts of cursing in it, while still being intelligent. I like to have my cake and eat it too
I don't mind cursing (would be weird if i did since Eminem is my favorite rapper ) but HT and Meteora were special because of no cursing and I applaud them for that. In ATS i feel the cursing did not do anything to imporve or better the music, but in MTM i feel like it was essential to the songs, especially Given Up I think I heard "fck" in the Burn It Down low quality rip
Hybrid Theory - A place for my head live - end of the song, "take away from me! Mothafuckyeeaaah!" XD
For me, I simply don't care. As long as they aren't saying fuck/shit 20 times in one song, I could care less.
I don't like it in When They Come For Me, it's too much. Blackout, I can live with, Bleed It Out, I can live with, WTCFM, no.
Says bullshit in High Voltage. I don't think it takes away from their songs. However "Try to catch up motherfucker" was not as natural as the swearing in Blackout or Given Up. So i'm not a big fan of swearing in WTCFM
The cursing doesn't get to me at all. Guess I listen to a lot of music that has cursing in it. It's no big deal.
It was a big deal to me when MTM came out because, at the time, my parents weren't allowing me to buy cd's with parental advisory labels. Luckily, though, I had white out I used it on so many of the albums I bought back in high school...
I'm used to hearing potty mouths all around me so the idea of hearing it on a cd don't bother me. *shrugs*
Ya WTCFM is a bit too much for me as well. Funny thing is my parents were interested in what I'm listening to when ATS came out and I had to skip that song because of the swearing lol.
Most of the time swearing is just lazy writing. Not very often is it correctly utilized. I think LP pulls it off for the most part.
