I think he was talking about first-week sales, in which case LT undersold ATS in its first week by approx. 6000 units in the U.S.

Good to see the band doing so well (certified gold in Australia :awesome: )
I can just imagine how happy the band would feel. Sure it undersold ATS in the first week but I think it'll have greater staying power over a longer period of time. Plus it leaked like a week early. Haha

I've read that ATS has sold 840,000 copies in the US as of May 2012.
I hope LT sells more! It's great news that it debuted at number 1.

Quick question: Where it says ATS sold 241k, is that physical+digital copies for the first week or just physical?

ATS sold 240,000 on its first week if I remember correctly. Either way, congrats to LP.

The RIAA really needs to change its Gold/Platinum rules to reflect today's technological effect on record sales.

Funny thing is the government has a system to track home many times a song is downloaded illegally. They should use that, but not really because I see the faults in that.

Who knows if they will because some artists still go nearly platinum or platinum in a week like Wayne, Eminem, Coldplay, Adele, Metallica, ect.

For the majority it would be better but they probably see the artists who still do that well and are like why should we change it.

Or they could say, well people shouldn't be DLing music anyways so we aren't going to change it

Yeah but how many of them are going to hit Diamond anymore?

The whole idea needs to be rebalanced.

yes it does need to be re balanced I think or at least to some degree but I'm just saying reasons as to why they would might not want to change it.

I hope it beats ATS, but it will not beat Hybrid Theory records and sales, i doubt any future LP album will really beat HT. But none the less Congrats LP
thank you for making a decent album.

So... they would go double or triple-platinum if the rules were changed. I'm sure the artists wouldn't complain with that label.

People downloading music is exactly why they should change it. Hardly anybody goes platinum anymore. Today's platinum is 2003's triple-platinum. It would restore the prestige of the award.

And while they can sit there whining about the immovable, unchangeable force that is online piracy, their best option is to be adaptive to a new environment.

Linkin Park's A Thousand Suns debuted with a total (physical + digital) album sales of approximately 241,000. The numbers announced here are not the official numbers regarding the US but they are about 95% correct. The figure listed (235,000) could rise and could go down.

Regarding how much linkin park have sold so far with A Thousand Suns, the approximate figure is 845,000 and here is a link
    http://www.hitsdailydouble.com/sales/sales_ur.cgi
look at the linkin park row and check the FW(first week) and RTD(release to date)

with respect to diamond and platimum. i really think it should be like the following 250,000 means gold - 500,000 means platinum - 5 million is diamond
this would be more fair to artists these days in the US. an album like Adele's 21 imho would have hit 15-18 million sales in the US by now if it was 10-15 years ago.
Linkin Park's album is one of the highest debuts of the year and it only sold 235,000 which is less than their REMIX album did in the first week back then (im referring to reanimation which sold 270,000 copies in its first week :O)

Anyways congrats to LP and the Fans for entering history and becoming one of the few artists who debut 5 albums at the top spot consecutively.
Lp now have 8 successful albums at hand :D i consider live in texas a success (it sold more than 1.5 million albums to date :O)
