It's been known for a week or two that Linkin Park's LIVING THINGS will see a vinyl release, with pre-orders being taken on international retail outlets such as Amazon, however over the weekend a release date has been revealed as well as the artwork that will support the vinyl edition of Linkin Park's new album. The album is being listed on Amazon Germany, Amazon Japan and Amazon Canada along with an official posting on the Warner Bros. International Catalogue. The album is slated for an October 30th release in Canada and November 23rd release internationally. It's worth noting that Amazon Japan are listing it as a US import from October 30th too. View the artwork below and let us know if you'll be picking up the vinyl edition of LIVING THINGS on the LPA Forums.

So that cover wasn't scrapped after all. I like it, but the original cover looks better imo.

Does anybody ever actually listen to the vinyl after they get it?

At the risk of sounding like a stupid, vain, hipster waste of space, I do LOVE vinyl records simply for the large artwork (which really is more satisfying than a small CD cover), and the tactile 'cool factor' of opening up a gate fold and having a big, chunky version of the liner notes and handling the vinyl record itself. Admittedly, the record player in my room (which is my parent's old player) is of mediocre quality, so I would actually get a better listening experience simply playing the CD.

I quite like artists in recent years who have released vinyl records with a USB stick or download code containing the album in digital form, giving you both the classic vinyl experience, but with a digital edition attached. I'd be slightly more willing to accept the inevitable death of the CD if more artists went down this route (though that seems unlikely).

Also, for concerned followers of the 'Loudness Wars' debate, vinyls are sometimes mastered in a more reasonable manner than their CD counterparts. For example, I BELIEVE (though may be mistaken) that the Meteora vinyl edition is of a lower and more conservative (and musical) mastering level than the CD.

Hoping for a better mastering ang mixing.... it would be better if they enhance some of the bad side of their mixing especially IN MY REMAINS, BURN IT DOWN, I'LL BE GONE & UNTIL IT BREAKS.. those songs had poor mixing quality..

Edit: the artwork reminds me of A Thousand Suns artworks..

The artwork is just delightful to look at, I'm glad that they had decided with something new. And I love the CD artwork as well. I may consider buying it depending on the price.

There's a fair chance that this edition will use different MASTERS, due to the nature of the physical vinyl-cutting process. It's not uncommon to find vinyl releases with more conservative masters than the CD release.

However, I'm about 99.9% sure that the vinyl will use exactly the same MIXES as the CD version, so any issues with the actual mixing will remain on the vinyl edition.
