Delighted to see this song finally performed live, regardless of a few shaky moments. Last chorus was great. Might need more fiddle though
For everyone complaining about the voice effect, you need to listen to the studio version more because that vocal effect exists on the album too. Same with skin to bone and some other songs mike sings on.
I know it's on the studio and it doesn't really bother me there. They do the same thing with the catalyst. It wouldn't bother me there wasn't so much effect. It's not the fact that its there, they just use it to the point that it kind of overshadows the vocals.
The mess up on the intro was not Mike's fault, it was Joe's fault. It was still a great performance and an AWESOME song to hear live EDIT: this is the best version I found so far
2:40 was the worst part of the performance. What the fuck? But the last chorus..... wow that was beautiful
they lost. Cities by Beck won and as much as I love Castle of Glass, Cities deserved to win. It fit perfectly with the game it was in (sound shapes)
Not that it's a major issue, but I believe it's actually Brad who makes the initial mistake, coming in one bar late with the psychedelic rhythm that he plays on the Maschine pads. Compare the album version (drums play for two bars, then psychedelic rhythm comes in) to this performance (drums play for three bars before Brad comes in). There after, I lost track of whether it was Mike or Joe playing the melody at the correct time, but I suspect it was Brad that confused things slightly. Not that it's a big deal, still a great performance. Brad's got a tasty looking Maschine Micro down at the front of the stage with him! Not sure if it's the same Maschine that he had earlier in the year for LIES GREED MISERY, he MAY have been using the full size Maschine during the summer tour, I can't recall. Joe's using his JazzMutant touch screen to play the melody, much like he does during the usual Joe-melodies in Numb/Crawling/In The End etc (that's probably what we see Mike playing around with in that rehearsal video he posted the other day). Overall, a nicely kitted out band
Mr. MacDonald's right. Brad made the mistake of coming in two bars late. Then Joe came in at the right time but Mike was off. And seeing the whole group singing harmonies makes me think the band can actually perform Robot Boy now. Come on, you've got harmonies going on all over the place!
Doubt it. Mike and Chester both hit some pretty bad notes towards the beginning of the song. And the "effect" people are complaining about is nothing more than the result of Chester and Mike singing in unison and being ever so slightly out of tune with each other. There's no flanger effect on the vocals or anything like there is on The Catalyst. You layer 2 sounds on top of each other that are a couple Hz apart, you get a chorus-like effect. Basic musical physics at work.
I loved the performance overall. The beginning was shaky but once Mike started singing it was great from there. The highlight was obviously the end though. Great job LP!
Is it possible to watch this performance somewhere right now? I've missed it and feel myself loser AND the link doesn't work anymore
