But, then, this is just Shinoda and Chester on a Steve Aoki beat. That's all that it seems to be at this point.

I think he's referring to the fact that there are 7 tracks on Living Things that are all in A minor.

I think that it has a similar pattern to Blackbirds where there is a Mike verse that happens before that video starts. Anyways, a lot I think is still wrong, but I feel like I did fix quite a bit. It's closer. Feel free to add/improve.

Here's what I'm coming up with...

A Light That Never Comes Lyrics:

    Nah, you don't know me
you don't know what I've got
    You don't know me
You cannot catch me, cannot hold me
You cannot stop much less control me

    When it rains it pours
When the flood gates open, race this horse
At best you don't care when it breaks your door
Say it's harder to take, well you take some more

Cause I know what it's like to test fate
Have my shoulders pressed with that weight
Still I stood strong in spite of that hate

The night gets darkest right before dawn
What don't kill you makes you more strong
What I've been waiting for so long

    The nights go on
Waiting for a light that never comes
    I chase the sun
Waiting for a light that never comes
    Ohhhh ohhh ohhhh
    Ohhhh ohhh ohhhh
    Ohhhh ohhh ohhhh
Waiting for a light that never comes

When I was young, they told me, they said
Make your pen, then, lie in that bed
We think you can't hold the reins so instead
then comes that day it's off with his head

The night gets darkest right before dawn
What don't kill you makes you more strong
You have my mercy, therefore you're gone

    The nights go on
Waiting for a light that never comes
    I chase the sun
Waiting for a light that never comes
    Ohhhh ohhh ohhhh
    Ohhhh ohhh ohhhh
    Ohhhh ohhh ohhhh
Waiting a the light that never comes

you don't know what I've got
    You don't know me
You cannot catch me, cannot hold me
You cannot stop much less control me

    When it rains it pours
When the flood gates open, race this horse
At best you don't care that it breaks some doors
See something you can take, better take some more

    Ohhhh ohhh ohhhh
    Ohhhh ohhh ohhhh
    Ohhhh ohhh ohhhh
Waiting for a light that never comes

    The nights go on
Waiting for a light that never comes
    I chase the sun
Waiting for a light that never comes
    Ohhhh ohhh ohhhh
    Ohhhh ohhh ohhhh
    Ohhhh ohhh ohhhh
Waiting for a light that never comes

Exactly what I think, I really hope the album doesn't sound like this song.

Good thing is that it probably won't be anything like the album.
Blackbirds wasn't exactly like ATS, it sounded more like a few of their minutes to midnight demos than anything on ATS, I also think the few lyrics I heard for this song suits the way they described the game in the past. They're working on a score, which is different from doing an album. They said that with a movie score you need to suit it to the scenes and characters, so that might involve any type of genre or mood dispite what they've done in the past.
Also while chester is working with STP at the same time and doing rock, the members might be in a flow of a lot of different genres, instead of going further into electronic.

I'm just trying to make myself less worried about how this album will turn out, LT is my least favorite, I wouldn't like them to become even more boring and radio friendly, If the album sounds like A Light That Never Comes, then I'd rather listen to Rihanna for the same type of music.

I very much think that the band will continue their tradition of not having any major collaborations happen on their studio albums. :)

I gotta be honest, those lyrics are dissuading me from wanting a new Fort Minor album.

I think it's test fate, not bait.

The parts that were clear were either awkwardly written or cliche-ridden. Don't get me wrong; as generic as this song is, I'm gonna put it on repeat about hundred times the day it comes out. This is just one more reminder that the emcee I heard on Reanimation and the Rising Tied is long gone. It's like being a Jay-Z fan since Reasonable Doubt only to suffer through Magna Carta Holy Grail. He's already proven himself, so why does he have to bother impressing anyone else when his popularity's plateaued? It sounds complacent and hearing the studio version will not change that for me.

I don't know, a lot of Shinoda's rhymes on the Fort Minor material are pretty cringe to me

I think that his rapping only works (even shines, sometimes) strictly the confines of Linkin Park music, whatever that may be. There doesn't seem to really be a place for it outside of those boundaries.

    Now,

    ----- "THE BREAKDOWN"
Squid in a Bin (Zak): It is [simple]
Squid in a Bin (Zak): LP collaborated with one of the biggest EDM people.
Squid in a Bin (Zak): And made a fairly pop-ish song to make it easily digestible
Squid in a Bin (Zak): And easily advertisable.
Squid in a Bin (Zak): In order to get as many people as possible to play the game.
Squid in a Bin (Zak): I'd like to think the fan bases between the two don't overlap a lot and Steve Aoki has around half of the twitter followers of LP.
Squid in a Bin (Zak): That's a total of 4.5m followers.
Squid in a Bin (Zak): More people = More Facebook players
Squid in a Bin (Zak): Now someone should go quote everything I said in the thread.

That's because Blackbirds WAS a Minutes to Midnight demo.

If anything, it's probably better to use New Divide as an example for a post-MTM/pre-ATS song. It was definitely the start of the band using more synth-heavy stuff with the guitar either being heavily manipulated (bridge) or playing a supporting role when it actually sounded like a guitar (chorus). Still, it wasn't QUITE in the same realm as most of the stuff that wound up on ATS, save for maybe something like Iridescent (in terms of instrumentation, not necessarily "overall sound").

In the case of this song, like some other people have said, this pretty much sounds like a Steve Aoki instrumental with Mike and Chester's vocals on it. I'm sure Mike had some input on the production side, but it was still probably more Steve than anything. Not the best song to judge Linkin Park's direction on when their contributions are primarily on the vocal side of things.

True. "New Divide" really bridges "Midnight" and "A Thousand Suns".

But, since "A Light That Never Comes" is a collaboration, later down the line, you could also compare it to "We Made It". That song sounded nothing like the Linkin Park albums which came before and after it and was obviously never meant to; it's not actually a Linkin Park song at all.

Had this very thought before. So like "We Made It", people will have to accept that the influence will be 50% of the other artist.

EDC lost their shit whenever a Linkin Park remix was played. Hardwell played that remix and someone else played some other remix.
