Billboard has just released an in depth interview with Mike Shinoda and Steve Aoki discussing how the two artists came together and the reasons for their seemingly "unexpected collaboration." Both Shinoda and Aoki discussed the ways they worked together and how they collaborated to write A Light That Never Comes. The article also brings to light an intriguing picture of how both artists view EDM's growth and its impact on the music industry over time.

Are the white borders actually supposed tone part of the artwork?

From a graphic design standpoint, that art is such a mess. It's far too busy and lacks a true focal point.

I've never been a fan of the band including movies (Transformers) or games into their artwork. I'd prefer a separation.

That's why they should stay away from TF inspired music videos and single artwork.

I feel it's different when the song is FOR the movie or game though.

I don't think they wrote New Divide about Transformers, just like I don't think ALTNC is about the Recharge game. They probably just wrote the songs completely separate.

As for New Divide, the song was written specifically for Transformers 2. Mike even said that the demo name was Megatron. (He says it around the 0:30 mark.)
As for ALTNC, I'm not entirely sure. My guess is that it was probably being made with LP Recharge in mind, but not being made specifically for the game.

Haha! Maybe I should be more clear. I was trying to say that while the song was being made, perhaps somewhere along the way one of the LP guys got the idea that it could fit with LP Recharge.
Also, the lines I chase the sun / Waiting for a light that never comes could draw references to the players' attempts to bring back electricity and restore power (chasing the sun) when it might seem impossible in the game's universe (the light never comes).

But I'm just speculating. I could be entirely wrong. It's happened before.

    Agreed.

I kind of concur ... but, then, I really love "New Divide" and I quite like the "Iridescent" video too so I'm somewhat conflicted ;D

Am I the only one that likes the cover? The only issue I have is that the text clashes with the lighter colours at points.

I remember when people bitched about the A Thousand Suns cover, now they bitch about this one. I just don't know what people expect from this band.

I loved the ATS cover. In short: the peeps bitching about the ATS cover might not be the same people who don't like this one. Just saying.

I don't want to go in essay territory but lemme explain what I don't like about this cover:

Too many random layers. You can't even say what's going on on the thing. What I'm seeing are:

    - the supposed bad guy
    - these objects/robts w/e behind the song title
    - a LOT of random lines
    - the earth
    - another robot-ish object right next to the earth
    - some sort of cityscape at the top

And those are all randomly fading into eachother. There is no focus at all.

Which brings me to my next point: how does this even portray the problems that LP wants to solve/make more known with this game/song? This game and the song are about, and I quote:

Basically, it's about promoting sustainable energy. Which I seriously do not get from this cover. I understand that they want to incorporate characters and other things from the game, but why not give this cover some focus? Why not have an actual story going on on the cover, preferably portraying the lyrics of the song? A wasted oppurtunity is what I'm seeing.
