I used to feel the same way, but the older I get the more I appreciate Nirvana over every one of those bands. Kurt was just such a naturally gifted songwriter, which is way more impressive to me than good musicianship. Great guitar players are a dime a dozen. Great songwriters are not.

With that said, I think Alice in Chains are very under-appreciated. I blame all of those shitty post-grunge bands who were just watered down versions of AIC--Creed, Days of the New, etc. I think they probably turned a lot of people off to that kind of music forever.

You forgot about one of the main popularizers of alternative rock, R.E.M.

AiC, PJ, Soundgarden and Tool all became popular around the same time as Nirvana, during the grunge outbreak. Also it's kind of logical Nirvana shall go on to have a bigger influence due to their popularity. Are they overrated? Depends on who you ask, in my opinion they're not, but as Tim said, bands such as Alice deserve more recognition as well.

Also, prices of paintings go up when the artist dies. Perhaps this is why Nirvana still enjoys such fame?

Absolutely my thoughts. Nirvana was a great band, but I really feel people regard them higher than some of the other bands that came out around the same time only due to Kurt Cobain's death rather than the music and impact made.

You know, Mudvayne had a lot of potential as a band and just became another generic Nu metal band. It sucks cause sometimes I hear moments of greatness but then they just write cheesy and generic shit.

Why Metallica won't release a remixed and remastered version of "...And Justice For All," I will never know....

I would love to hear the fabled Jason Newsted on that album.

Metallica's magnum opus, ruined by absolutely horrid production.

Hmmmm... You reference their magnum opus but you don't appear to be talking about Kill em All. It's quite confusing :p

...And Justice For All > Ride The Lightning > Master of Puppets > Kill 'Em All
    Sorry, not sorry. :bradwink:

On a different note, Watchmojo.com released their top ten list of Linkin Park songs, and as you would expect, it's a generic list of the hits. Oh well.
