I think Brad did a good job on THP, he really woke up the 16-year-old him. So there's a lot of guitar solos on this album, what's your favorite? Mine is A Line In The Sand.
I like all of them, and even though it's not my favorite track, the solo on WAR is just too gnarly to not get my vote.
War. It has probably the most technical solo in Linkin Park entire discography. And more than that, it just sounds fucking awesome! On another side, no way Brad is gonna be able to play it live
War is the one that stands out to me the most, I think. I enjoy GATS too but it's similar to the Faint live outro, plus we've had GATS for a while now
In terms of combining a well-thought-out structure with something that sounds really cool, I think All For Nothing is my favorite. The solos on a couple songs (War, GATS) sound like Brad just went in and recorded one take of him flailing about on the strings, ran it through as many wacky effects as possible, and called it good. Sure, those solos showcase speed, but they don't sound particularly thought-out or easy to replicate (we've already seen how hit and miss...mostly miss...Brad's solos on GATS live are). Then you have the solos on Until It's Gone and Final Masquerade, which serve each song well, but it's hard to really call them favorites due to their What I've Done-esque simplicity. The solos on the other songs have things that bug me, there's this moment about halfway through the Keys to the Kingdom solo where Brad does this really out-of-place chromatic run that honestly sounds like he's trying to search for the right scale to play in. Surprised that made it into the final take. The Mark the Graves solos are decent, but I wouldn't quite call them standouts. A Line in the Sand SOUNDS like it has some awesome lead work in it, but a big chunk of it is buried to where you can't make it out clearly. Only flaw in that song, IMO. As much good musicianship as there is on this record, I have to say that The Little Things Give You Away has yet to be surpassed on my "favorite Linkin Park guitar solo" list.
Glad I'm not the only one who heard that. I was a bit confused like "uh... Brad?" I assumed they liked the "spontaneity" of it.
Well if you ask me both of these things are good things. I think GATS, WAR, MTG, ATN and ALITS have some of the best solos Brad has ever made. Sure he can't play them live but does that really matter for the studio version? - No.
exactly i dont know much about guitar, but i kind of agree with it. for me the solos lack diversity and quality, instead of just going "lets put a badass solo here" wahwahwahwahwahwahwahwah agree with you, but i feel this can turn into a reason(excuse) not to play the songs live
the one in final masquerade sounds really cool, the way it goes along with the vocal melody. It's just complex enough to not be boring, but just simple enough to be relaxing and not distracting. War one is pretty cool sounding, but the post-bridge sound of KTTK is insane. There's so much energy there, I don't even know what to do with myself when I hear that part.
All For Nothing's solo is actually composed and under control so I think that one deserves some credit. Whereas GATS and War are just like WAHHWAHAHAHWAHWAHWAHAHHHHWAHHWAHWAHWAHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH.
