Recently, Linkin Park's Dave "Phoenix" Farrell sat down with Rolling Stone for an interview about their newly released album "The Hunting Party". Check it out below: RS: What has driven the band for The Hunting Party? Why is it much more guitar-driven and much less driven by electro-samples? RS: Mike said how it might be LP’s loudest record yet, but that would make a lot of fans think about your nu-metal days with Hybrid Theory and Meteora. What was it like going back to heavier stuff, but not making it nu-metal? RS: Brad and Mike were both producing this album, something that’s a first for the band. What was it like having them steer the band? RS: A heavier, rock-oriented record also means there’s major emphasis on guitars, drums and bass. What, if anything, did you change around for The Hunting Party? RS: Another thing completely new to this album are the collaborations. First there was Rakim but now we know there’s Daron Malakian, Tom Morello and Page Hamilton. What was it like working with them? RS: With every time that the band’s sound has changed, is there ever a concern that you’ll be alienating certain fans? What do you think of this interview? Technically, he never said that. All he said was that the songs were crafted with a live setting in mind. Doesn't mean he wants to play them all.
Uncool of Rolling Stone to give the album 2.5. Sure, differing opinions and all, but come on! EDIT: The community rating on Rolling Stone's site is 4.5, so that's good.
I expect them to play just about all of it live for the CARNIVORES tour. Maybe this time certain members of the band won't try to control everything with the setlists and we will see some new stuff. LT's tour after the release was 75% the same as it had been in the weeks prior to the release, for the most part, so hopefully this does not happen.
i know the guy who took the interview , it was a phone interview by Rolling Stone India . If anyone wants scans of this from the magazine , you're welcome
I wouldn't take anything LP say about performing full albums live seriously. Especially considering how they said that the entire point of LT was to be a fire-cracker record that would make their live shows more energetic and then proceed to not even play half the album live...
Well , maybe because all after VICTIMIZED isnt THAT energetic than the songs before (i am not saying that these songs are bad, just that they wouldnt be that energetic on live performances) And with LITE IMR BID LGM CoG VICTIMIZED (you can include Tinfoil and the part of UIB on WFTE if you want) they played exactly the half of Living Things live The energetic songs.
But the band members claimed that they wanted every song to be able to add "energy" to the live show, so I'd say that that's where this apparent discrepancy comes from
Did they actually play Tinfoil? I thought it was just a backing track interlude and no instrumentation was actually played. Sorry if I'm wrong on that. Also Minuteforce is on point, not to mention that Skin to Bone, Until it Breaks and Roads Untraveled are much more energetic and better songs to play live(imo) than Burn it Down, In my Remains and Lost in the Echo.
