To make vocals fit better, I typically start with the following settings (m_macdonald taught me these and they work beautifully): Compressor: Medium attack (400 - 500 ms approx) Slow release (800 + ms) Increase/decrease ratio and threshold for greater/less effect Limiter: Release: 50ms Reduce threshold until you get around 3+ dB of gain reduction === Typically what I do is lower the volume of the vocal track in the main mixer a little. Then what I do is put the compressor ratio to the settings above and then leave it alone, but play around with the threshold till the vocals "float within the beat" (making it seem like it's part of the song instead of just laid over the beat). Once I'm satisfied with that I boost the gain in the compressor as necessary to adjust how loud it is. This works with sung vocals, and even speech samples (like you have in your mix). Hope that helps your mixing dilemma .
Keep in mind that compressor parameters should vary depending on the vocal; staccato rapping will require different settings to sustained melodic notes, so just use your ears.

You're allowed technically to submit old remixes. We encourage new ones to be made for the competition, but if you have something older that applies to the theme you can submit it provided it wasn't submitted for another MMU in the past. Of course the entry must have the MMU image as album art and mention the MMU in the title or else it cannot be accepted.

Hello Guys! Seen that i am not entering this month i would like to help you out a bit. How? With a little vocoder tip which is super easy to use, even for newbies! Requirements: A music program, or how professionals say it - "DAW" The vst "mda talkbox" (its free and you can get it here http://mda.smartelectronix.com/ [unfortunately you need to download the package, but hey - its free ]) So step one - make vocals, sing by yourself or get acapellas, doesnt matter because it gets vocoded anyway. Dont be shy, just sing if there is no acapella you want to use, people dont hear your real voice after that anyway, and if it sounds good after that, pf who the f*ck cares. Step two - Pan your vocals to the left channel, so you can only hear your vocals to the left side of your headphones / speakers. Step Three - Open up a instrument you want to use for your vocals. The best robot voice is a simple saw with a little reverb, but play around, you might find something awesome with new sounds! Step four - Pan your instrument to the right, so you can only hear your instrument at the right side of your headphones / speakers. Step five - Select a brand new mixer-channel (an empty one) and add your vocals AND your instrument to it. Step six - Add to this mixer channel a vst. Which one? Yes, MDA Talk Box! Step seven - BE CREATIVE AND MAKE MELODIES WHICH FIT TO THE VOCALS (Help: if you dont hear your vocals at all anymore its because, if you make a melody, BOTH THINGS NEED TO BE ON THE PLAYLIST, vocals such as the instrument. They basically get "mixed" together, and that happens only if they are existing, obviously ) I hope i could explain it really well and that gives you much more choices to remix different tracks, like The Little Things Give You Away or other tracks which dont have any acapellas.
