As announced in this tweet from the man himself, Linkin Park band member Mike Shinoda is due to appear on Reddit to participate in an AMA (Ask Me Anything) session. Shinoda's AMA is scheduled to take place on August 12 at 10 AM, PST (which is 1 PM, EDT). Fans will be able to visit the eventual thread in the r/IAmA subreddit at that date and time, and post questions using Reddit accounts for Shinoda to answer with his own posts. What would you ask Mike Shinoda of Linkin Park? Leave your best ideas on our message board! I wonder why he would do an AMA when he can do a chat with LPU? I imagine the thread will be full of haters, with few decent questions. However, I will make sure to ask him some good ones.
LPU is for fans. Reddit is for anyone. Fans, past fans, people who hate them, people who love them, and people who don't know them
Despite what you're all saying, the good thing about reddit as a platform is that any pointless bashing will be downvoted, it's not like a traditional forum where you see everything in chronological order, whether it's good content or bad content. It doesn't matter whether most of the community actually care about the band or not, good questions will float to the top, the community hates when people don't ask proper questions in an AMA. There might be a few rude "questions" near the top, but the reddit community is somewhat reasonable, that is, the only times people get upvoted to the top for bashing someone is when there's a bit of truth in their argument, eg. if the person doing to AMA is known for being a dick, that sort of thing. If it was 2004 it'd be a different story, but even the reddit hivemind isn't stupid enough to upvote people making fun of the band for only making "angsty nu metal stuff". There might be a bit, but there'll be enough LP fans around to correct them, and they'll be listened to, bashing LP isn't as cool as it was even 5 years ago. I'm saying this as a huge LP fan and someone who uses Reddit pretty much daily, the community there has tonnes of problems, but they generally listen to you if you can back up an argument. Because of this, LP isn't made fun of that often, because when it is, someone points them towards some stuff from ATS or LT. TL;DR: AMAs actually generally work quite well on Reddit. Of course there'll be idiots making fun of the band and being rude, but due to Reddit's format they'll be downvoted and won't be seen. The community there doesn't vehemently hate LP, they're quite neutral to the band for the most part nowadays. Also this. This needs to be a thing.
I've always loved reading AMAs, and this one will be no different. I hope that people deliver some really great questions. I am surprised that there seems to have been no request thread, though - at least, nothing recent. There was a good amount of demand for Shinoda to do an AMA a few years ago
No offense marcleo but I hope there are no 'when are you coming to my country?' questions. From what I've seen hinted in the past, Shinoda really can't stand those because he can't answer them. It's not up to him, as that role typically falls on the band's 'booking agent' for tours. The band can certainly tell their booking agent that they'd like to perform shows in ___ country, and *suggest* he/she books dates in that country, but at the end of the day they'll always answer "I don't know" or "wait for tour dates to be posted" in response to those questions, because it's not really in their control. So please, please, no come to my country questions. It's a waste of time .
I really can't tell right now how successful the AMA will be in terms of turnout, but I guess there's still plenty of time for LP fans to learn that it'll be happening
