Lyrics are generally the biggest problem with LP songs. The band are great at figuring out where to put which vocalist and determining what/how they should be singing but it's only ever the words that I feel really let me down, personally.
So what you're saying is... YOU DON'T WANNA BE LET DOOOOOOOOOOWN YOU DON'T WANNA BE LED DOWN THE SAME OLD, ROADDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDD
I hate the chorus. Such an uninspired vocal melody. Absolutely dreadful. And the song's lyrics are as uninspired as the chorus' vocal melody. The instrumental is fine. We'll give it a rating out of 10, based on a couple of elements. So let's do the math: An okay instrumental with a somewhat interesting switch-up at the end? 6/10 A chorus with the shittiest vocal melody on a Linkin Park song to date, that gets repeated 3x? -3/10 Uninspired lyrics throughout the 3-minute song? -3/10 Wastelands = 6 + (-3) + (-3) Wastelands = 6 - 3 - 3 Wastelands = 0 0/10 Oh boy!
Yes, this. The drumming on the verses is pretty weird... And Mike is once again rapping about how badass he is. WTCFM and UIB were enough, thank you.
The drumming's weird but I have mad respect for Rob for doing something like that. It would have been soooo easy for him to just stick a standard backbeat behind the track, the drumming's probably the most interesting aspect of the song for me.
I Love Wastelands. Mostly because Mike's verses are sick both lyrically and the flow. It's a fun track to my ears. It never crossed my mind that it sounded like a meteora song, probably because of the mixing. But when I think of it Stylistically, I see why.
I love it honestly. Top 5 track from the album. Mike's rhyme pattern gets me hyped and it's his best verses on the record.
"Rebellion" is a great example of THP's wall of noise style sound being too exhausting with little payoff.
Rebellion is amazing (who will open THAT thread? ) E: Isnt it time slowly for revive the Session-Thread? (Yeah i know, we need first the Hypetrain to start...)
I like Meteora, but I'm not a big fan of Wastelands. I don't like Mike's raps, and Chester's parts are okay. The guitars are one of my favourite parts of the song.
You better believe it is all this "Blah THP isn't good anymore" crap is itching at me to start up again.
I don't understand the hate for Mike's battle rap style. It's about as hip hop as he can get. It sure beats any of his emo raps from 2003 to trick suburbanites into a deeper message . Plus, Wastelands is a better example of this style from Mike compared to KTTK.
For me Mike's verses are pretty decent, what lets the song down is the chorus which is a bit boring tbh, lacking a catchy hook/melody. Overall the song is pretty meh, and probably wouldn't have made it onto some of LP's previous albums quality wise had it been recorded back then. The description on the Wastelands wiki page makes amusing reading.
Roll credits, you get it, the show's done They're talking for just talking, but meaning, they got none
