Phoenix has recently been interviewed by Front Row Live Entertainment. In the interview, he discussed the writing process of the new album, which he hopes is released by the end of 2016, or at the beginning of 2017. He also discussed the band's 2014 Warped Tour Show, the band Issues, and the recently released "Things In My Jeep" collaboration with The Lonely Island. Check out the interview below.

What do you think of the interview? When do you hope the new album is released? Join the discussion in our forums!

End of '16 or early '17 for the single? Damn that's a long wait... I thought we'd get something by October-ish.

I think they are just throwing the release date very ahead, just so they don't make false promises (as Phoenix said). They still can be done by october.

I think he meant the album would be out by then, but I could be wrong.
If not, then this album cycle truly is a slow jerk.

Second time I've ever got credit for something :D. Thanks guys!

I'll be at the San Diego Warped stop this year, would be cool if they did another surprise performance! Although, unlikely.

Also I think he meant Album by then but who knows. I'm cool with waiting. It's just amazing we get this album, because a lot of bands don't last this long. Don't take things for granted just be happy that we still have Linkin Park

Yes : 7 albums in 16/17 years and no significant hiatus up to now is great

Honestly, I can wait. Releasing an album every 1 1/2- 2 years really effected certain aspects of their music.

What really refined who they were as a band was the four year gap between Meteora and Minutes to Midnight where Collision Course and Fort Minor occurred. But yes, the time they take after each cycle builds layers to their identity.

I don't like the idea of them opening up the writing of a main album to other artists even more. It was already far enough on THP. It dilutes things too much. Implies they don't have strong ideas of their own.

SMH. No, 2-3 years is not a slow album cycle, at all. Actually it's really standard. Try being a Tool or Metallica fan, 8-11+ years between albums.

+1. Feels like they're just trying to blast through their contract as fast as possible.

They don't. Not enough to carry a whole album, at the very least. Their brand of lyricism is pretty tired at this point. Seven albums in is a good time for a rethink, even if it only lasts one or two albums. I'd imagine the band gets pretty tired of writing the same things all the time.

I'm not so sure that their music has become tiring lyrically. It's just that LP has been fairly consistent with building themes around their albums, so the songs tend to reflect a particular album theme, causing the songs to be linked to one another through their lyrics. At least, that's how I see it.

I mean, how much variety can there really be when it comes to songs about personal relationships and feelings, anyway? This question doesn't just apply to LP, but virtually any band that has written personal songs. What I'm saying is, I have noticed a trend with bands writing songs on a personal level. These songs tend to have familiar themes, words, imagery, symbolism, etc.

If they wrote some more positive lyrics (Heavens forbid), quite a bit, actually. Not attacking them for going down an angsty route more often than not, but there is tonnes of unexplored territory for LP in terms of lyrics that can be about relationships, or something along those lines.

The only album (post Meteora) that had a theme was ATS, everything else had songs that were all over the place lyrically...
