I mean, the fact that the folk influence is fairly apparent in Living Things, even if it's only a couple of tracks, doesn't make their claim false.. The marketing aspect I wasn't a big fan of was the keyword since LT, from toolbox to carnivores. Those are really intentional, but in this video I can see it being an actual process of trying to name the record or something along those lines.
Their marketing is always so dumb and cringe worthy. Just announced an album and release it, buzzwords and stuff isn't exciting, it's unlikeable.
I wish they release something for today, but I have a feeling that maybe today we won't get anything.
The only song that feels a little "folk" to me on LT is Castle of Glass, other than that I feel it's more of a electronic-rock, alternative album. Plus, I think the only cringeworthy marketing they had is for the release of THP, wanting to be a carnivore rock-album and having Until It's Gone and Final Masquerade as two of the three singles.
Yup, my experience watching the video was basically: BRAD: "I think it's a personal record." ME: "So, Living Things?" BRAD: "I don't think it's about, like, politics..." ME: "So, Living Things?" BRAD: "I feel like the person singing is speaking to me in a revealing way, or the person's talking to someone that they're in a relationship with." ME: "So... any Linkin Park album except ATS?" DAVE: "From the beginning, going in to write songs that you want a big group of people to relate to it..." ME: "Okay, it's going to be a Linkin Park record. That's what you're telling us. Thanks!" I don't want to come off as a jerk, I'm just making the point that this record, based on this video, will have nothing distinguishing it from most LP albums (though I'm sure it actually will). The vid is... informatively non-informative.
There's Castle of Glass, the first verse of Victimized, the whole of Roads Untraveled, the whole of Skin To Bone, the Chester part and the Brad part of Until It Breaks, parts of Powerless. All clearly folk-inspired parts in terms of melody, rhyme patterns and lyrics. You're just not hearing it because it's less apparent with the sort of electronic/experimental way the instrumentation was done. We're used to folk being delivered with acoustic guitar or piano, but this blend of very old and very new is what makes the second half of that record pretty original.
So... LP7: "lyrics, personal" THP: "visceral" LT: "folk influences" ATS: "meant to be listened as a whole, experience" Did they have keywords for their albums before that?
It's more A Thousand Suns - Polarising Living Things - Toolbox The Hunting Party - Visceral LP7 - Personal / Honest / ??? Edit: Beaten faster than my dick the first time I heard Blackout.
IIRC: Meteora - Dark/Epic Minutes To Midnight - Different/Out of the Box A Thousand Suns - Genre-busting Living Things - Toolbox The Hunting Party - Visceral LP7 - Honesty/Lyrics
The funny thing is people always need to be able to name or categorize things (nu metal, etc.). So it is not really suprising because everyone in this comment section is doing it (more or less aware of it, even when talking about marketing blurb or emotional talk about content or structure, old albums vs new albums, etc).
I think it's safe to say we won't get anything till Thursday. I get they are trying to market this record but that also means probably no single for a month at least. Fuck.
Whatever phrase they use to promote a new record really doesn't matter to me, doesn't bother me either. I'm just happy for a new record and I'm all for their promotion, it really hypes me up!!
I thought it had been pretty much established that these 8 clips are a countdown to next Tuesday? If we don't get anything today I would be surprised.
Wasn't MtMs keyword also "organic" or something? Because the songs were less packed with layers and the sound was more pure in general(e.g. the guitars)... On another note, it seems that we wont get any new teaser today? A Teaser three times a week (=every second day except weekends) would fit to a release on the 21st. Then we'd have to get something on Wednesday, which feels kinda right at this point...
