I feel bad that LP is getting so much hate, I mean I can't stand this song but what people are saying about the band makes me sad, even cursing out Hybrid theory now. I hope LP survives this.

What is a sign for a good song? Because innovation definitely is not an indicator. Since music is a subjective matter there are none. You can judge if someone can play an instrument or sing and that's basically it (even then, as Derek pointed out when it sounds good it doesn't matter how Chester plays the trumpet :-D).Of course you can built your own scheme and say that is a bad LP song because it is more poppy. But others can do the same for other genres they already did. It is pointless.

Nicki Minaj one of very, very few high-profile female rappers, partly because she's been very adept at crossing over into the pop realm where necessary, and not losing step along the way (like Kendrick does, IMO). Within that league, and the larger context of modern mainstream hip-hop as a whole, she's established her own lane with that versatility, displaying an impressive arsenal of flows, as well as distinctive signature looks and personas that she can shift between with ease. When she first appeared, no-one knew what the hell was going on because she was that different. She's achieved massive success, in the mainstream spotlight and outside of it, by working hard and building upon what came before her. She's used that platform to say and do some important things, and be heard. Because of all this, I would argue that Nicki Minaj is culturally significant and innovative in her own way, even if she isn't to your taste.

Now, Nicki Minaj's music isn't quite my thing - I have only about 8 songs in my music library that involve her - so I say all of this just as someone who pays attention to this stuff.

Anyway, the "innovation" that you say "100 underground bands" are bringing ... if that refers to any specific single type or area of innovation, I'm gonna assume it's an entirely different type of innovation with (almost certainly) an entirely different context behind it compared to what Nicki Minaj has done or is doing.

Sorry I'm not a edgy teenager anymore. I actually love every little thing about this song. Still got that lp vibe about it

Well, I agree that music is a subjective matter. But that doesn't mean you can't have good discussions over it.

For me, there are many signs for a good song and innovation sure is one of them. Let's take Bohemian Rhapsody by Queen. Many people say it's the best song ever written. It was something completely new at the time, turning an opera into a pop song, that has never been done before back then.

And also, I never said it's a "bad LP song because it is more poppy". Sure, a lot of people say it, I don't. I don't really care about genres, I just don't like this particular song.

I don't know, I can't understand all this drama. I didn't like THP and that was it, I listened to other stuff and waited for a new album. Of course I understand feeling disappointed about Heavy, but looking at some posts it feels like the world is about to end. Chill.

We don't want another new metal phase. We also didn't wanted a basic pop music that ANY artist can write at any time.
That's the problem. It's a song like thousands of others that feels exactly the same.

I went to sleep, i woked up and listened to it again. It's an ok pop song and nothing more than that.

If I absolutely didn't like this song, it wouldn't be hard for me to accept it and move on, and also respect the band for making it anyway. But , then,I actually rarely ever listen to LP songs as it is

It's hard to say if LP really wanted to make a song like this, or they were pressured by the label.... We'll never know.

Every damn single, even after Shinoda dispelled this idea the other year
LP fans suddenly like "THP wasn't so bad..."
