Are we really calling them a pop band just because they decided to try pop once out of the six albums they've made since 2000? That's like calling One Direction, which is pretty much a pop boyband, heavy metal after they decided to make a heavy metal single. They are not pop. They are trying out pop, but that doesn't mean they're pop from now on. This is also pop-rock, believe it or not. LP has changed their style seven different times. To think this style change is permanent is really dumb.
Bro LP is a pop band at heart. ITE, Numb, BTH, LOATR, Iridescent, Powerless. Maybe Pop rock, but Pop nonetheless. Nothing wrong with that. It brought them massive success.
I have a feeling this album is going to be shorter than Meteora which makes me sad. I hope LP8 isn't that far away
Anyone know if there will be a deluxe or special version with bonus tracks or a "making of" dvd? I know that they had cameras and video cameras recording what they were doing but I haven't heard of anything like a deluxe or special edition, beside the book that I don't want.
BTW, for those saying it won't reach the 30 minute mark... if it was under 30 minutes it wouldn't be considered an album, it would be called an EP. But we haven't heard it be called an EP. That's why they keep calling it an album which is considered an LP. An LP is over 30 minutes. Don't get too disappointed yet guys.
I'm surprised people are complaining about the length. So far, Meteora is the shortest album ever, at 36:43 - that's 16 seconds shorter than Living Things, and the shortest album they've made.
Well yeah, but that's still far too short for an album IMO, especially when they've spent the guts of 18 months in studio writing and recording it. For reference, if I remember correctly, they spent around 6 months in studio for LT. Either way, 35 minutes per album made sense in the 60s and 70s when bands were regularly putting out an album every year, but IMO it doesn't quite cut it after 3 years of work.
I don't think people are actually lamenting that the album is short, its just that they prefer good songs that are longer and they feel that out of the estimated allotted album length the songs that have released so far are what they feel so far are mediocre songs that are taking up track time that could have been spent on songs they'd enjoy more. I may be wrong though. It happens. Often!
How does everyone already seem so sure of how long the other unreleased tracks are? I know "Heavy", "Battle Symphony" and "Good Goodbye" are relatively short, but that's often the case with singles or promos. Pop songs can be 5+ minutes, so it being a pop record doesn't guarantee anything imo. There is no reason to be so certain that there wont be a few longer tracks.
