Seems like the most obvious thing. The event/premiere is going to be livestreamed, why wait a week to release when that week is going to eat up all the listens/views via illegal means anyways?
NCSM and OML (The song) are beautiful and I will be grateful OML exists for that reason, but man, the most optimistic and lyrically hopeful album from the band coming out months before the darkest part really makes it tragic to me in a way that is hard to relisten to. Doesn’t help that 2017 was a miserable time for me personally. But I do really love how lyrically personal songs like Halfway Right were. I would probably trade that Chester rap verse for the Mike demo verse on Sorry For Now, but that’s ok. I also like Good Goodbye despite its dissonance thematically. I haven’t really been a fan of Mike’s singing too much on PT or the solo songs. But I liked how he changed up his deliveries on Post Traumatic. Melodic rapping isn’t something that permeated Shinoda’s rap style pre-2018 (except for the reggae-influenced Waiting For The End) but he does it pretty effortlessly and it was pretty fresh in that period. Plus, even though I miss the conscious style that blended with Chester’s choruses, I like the battle rap style he adopted from LT onward. Hell, that Ziggurats project was something I always wanted him to do.
Yeah, see, I was arguing with those people and defending it for a long time and, being removed from that for some years gave me some much-needed space. Looking back, I guess we both benefitted I have my favourite songs across the discography but I don't like any LP album front-to-back now, especially when it comes to lyrics because those are really make-or-break for me much of the time. I'll be there to listen to and support any new activity from the band, but I also can't say I'm chomping at the bit to hear whatever Shinoda writes next
New music in less than 48 hours, and most likely a live performance.as well. It's absolutely crazy. Speculation-wise, I'll join the people who have put their faith in the Emily Armstrong case, and put my final bet on her too. There is obviously zero hard evidence. But, honestly, there does seem to be some suspicious stuff going on with her instagram/inactive band/etc. And she does seem like a credible candidate. Versatile vocals. Grunge background. Wild energy. Stage presence. She hasn't been discussed so much over here, so I'm dropping couple of videos that did personally make me feel like "Damn, that could be it". Two of them are covers, which I find especially interesting, as they display some adaptability beyond the style of her own band.
First of all, wow, it's been a while! Second, and I don't know if this has been mentioned, but my wish is that the band stays as it is, with our five guys only, Mike can easily carry with vocals and some rap here and there. If they bring someone else I'd absolutely respect their choice though. We'll see (im so anxious lol)
No I did not. It's overproduced and overly electronic/glitzy. The sense of risk-taking and writing songs that don't fit in the usual LP song structure that they developed over MTM and ATS were completely discarded in favour of straightforward and frankly bland/safe radio songs. If you need to strip away the pop elements and reimagine the album in a different genre to appreciate it, that suggests a fundamental issue with the album itself. Expecting listeners to make such drastic changes to enjoy the music is quite unreasonable. Also, it's not just that people forgot LP always incorporated pop elements into their music; rather, the issue is more with the type of pop they incorporated in OML. They went with the most painfully generic and safe version of pop, similar to what a hundred other artists were doing at the time. Even when the album was released, it already felt outdated due to its reliance on those overused trends. I agree with this wholeheartedly.
You're cherry-picking 2 out 12 songs. Majority of the album still plays it safe. Also regardless of whether its safe or not, I find Victimized to be all over the place.
I'd like to nip this in the bud - I do not want this thread to descend into a fierce argument about the merits of "VICTIMIZED".
Interesting points on LT all around, I’d say. These have been some aspects I never put my finger on about it.
After listening a bit more to Dead Sara I'm a bit more positive about the possibility of having the singer in LP. My first listen was a live performance of The Wetherman on my phone and that is truly ill adviced! It would put LP more in to the pop with a rough edge corner rather than rock with a pop edge I think but I can see now how it could work. Here's to hoping they'll produce some challenging songs! Kinda funny how the idea of having Emily in LP circles me back to one of my "LP fantasy league replacement" picks: Good old Skunk Anansi, enjoy the potatoe live performance!
