Now let's see how many people actually do that, and come back saying they busted an ear drum, but still couldn't hear him ;)

do you understand the concept of backing vocals. They sing as background to add depth.

All the members who do not have a part as a vocalist usually just sing along in the background. That's why it's called, "Background" vocals.

Also, vocalists get a larger percentage of CD sales than other band members, so if everyone add vocals, (even if you can't hear them) to the album they will all get a fairly equal share from the record label :)
    Quite devious really!

i'm not quite sure about this, but if you listen to the track "easier to run" in meteora, you can hear some backing vocals in mike's lyrics:
"if i could change, i would. take back the pain ,i would. retrace every wrong move that i made, i would..."

and the second verse of the song there are backing vocals in chester's lyrics. the part where chester sings "sometimes i remember the darkness of my past..."

and i think there are backing vocals in"forgotten" too
i'm not sure about the other songs though.

i hope this answers everyone's question

Anyway, I heard somewhere that Phi can actually sing quite well, but for now I will go with the theory that they put "Background Vocals" in the liner notes for extra credit.

I'm going to kill this thread.

There are no background vocals. Chester does all of the singing on the album and his voice is often layered to make it sound like there is more than one person singing when, in fact, it is only Chester with layered vocals. Mike only does the rapping on the albums. The reason Mike sings those parts live and is shown singing them in the videos is because Chester can't possibly sing two things at once, whether it's in a music video or not. They put in the liner notes that the rest of the band does backing vocals to deceive fools who have no idea what Pro Tools is.

    Case closed.
