how trendy rock bands are currently branching off:

emo-alternative-soft: modest mouse, snow patrol, etc.
retro: jet, the killers, franz ferdinand, etc.
screamo: my chem romance, the used, etc.
pop punk: yellowcard, gc, nfg, etc.

rap-rock like LP is fading. and does anyone even use the term nu-metal anymore?

    opinions?

I've never understood the term 'nu-metal', but lotsa magazines and articles use that with LP.

And about the rap-rock thing ... what about Chronic Future?

I wouldn't blame the bands for coming up with the labels; blame the kids, critics, media in general, this thread.

dude, i'm trying to make light of the fact that the media as well as mainstream radio wouldn't know crazy ass music if it came up and chomped off their testicles in rage. let us break the barriers, or genres will further splt.

that dude is right, chronic future is rap-rock, but i can name tons of other bands currently on the airwaves for alt-soft-emo, retro, screamo, and pop-punk

i would have to say that the least artistic of these genres is pop-punk, with retro coming in a close second because they just xerox what has been done before.

The term nu-metal is normally applied as an insult to bands by the media now. To be honest I don't get why people keep putting music into silly categories anyway?

    AHHHHH!
What do all of you have against kids?

@ bustedsuck88: I agree, most bands think of it as an insult(as LP stated):
    Joe: "We are not nu-metal, but we are...I don't even know what nu-metal is. Nu-crap. Nu-tard. Nu-vomit."

Nu is german voor 'new'. Therefor, new-metal

so normal 'metal' would be the the 80's rock. Iggy Pop, Rob Zombie, Metallica, Judas Priest etc etc. Since those bands kinda 'died', bands came with a new sound but that still sounded like the 80's, but then modern

    Yeah, im just saying poo.

Nu metal is a genre: rap with metal and hardcore. The fact that LP, Limp Bizkit and some other bands got really popular made it an insult.

Don't give a fuck about labels, they're just there to help you find out more artists who sound similar to what you like.

    Yeh, Chris, thats right

The media made the term 'new metal' a bad word becuase it got so popular and other genres started coming more popular, doesnt mean one genre has died on its ass

    Iggy Pop is 70's :)

I'd say, with the exception of all those 'retro' and 'punk' bands, rock is really on a low right now. I really hate the 'nu-metal' labely because like someone already said, it's used more like a insult than a genre in music.

    I agree with Duck.

Although I do find it hilarious how all these music magazines will make this big fuss about a band, talking about how experimental they are and how they combine all this genres, and then you listen and it's....screamo.

Yeah. In this case though the media came up with that to go with all the bands with mispelt names, like Korn, Limpbizkit and Linkin Park.
