You know something is wrong when your longtime loyal fans even know that Bob Rock is fucking up their shit.

Paul is right. This petition is very unlikely to change anything, i doubt Metallica will even take notice of this. All Metallica has to do is look at the 80 million records they've sold compared to how many signitures will be on that at the end. Something tells me that it won't make a difference.

If they didn't like what he was doing, why didn't they just find someone a long time ago? Why do people have to sign a petition?

Because the fans can't pick the producers?

I'm not signing it. This is an absolute joke. Metallica has kept itself as a viable band by experimenting with different types of music over the last decade. They stretched out the genre of thrash as much as it could be and Rock helped them move on to bigger and better things. Load and Re-Load are not liked by Metallica fans because they are different, but they rank up with STP and alice in Chains as the best alternative albums of the 90's. I simply don't understand why most Metallica's fans expect them to stay the same for the rest of their career when music is a constantly evolving thing.. Bob Rock helped them move along to the next level, and it's not like at this point he really even has the same role as he did when he started with them, he's really just a figurehead. He doesn't need to be removed, Metallica just needs to stop listening to fans when it comes on how to make an album. Obviously, trying to make it more raw like everyone wanted it to be resulted in St. Anger, and that didn't have the best results. Metallica owes it to themselves to produce an album based on their own intuitions and they also need to realize that there are a lot of fans out there that can appreciate change.

The problem is, dedicated metallica fans, and other loyal fans like myself don't want a nu-metal metallica like st. anger or alternative metallica like in load and reload. We want the REAL, pure metallica, the band that made metal so awesome. We want metallica to live up to their name, to reinvent themselves as the metal band they once were.

man, trust me, i'm one of the biggest metallica fans out there. The thing is, I just want to see them produce what THEY think will be good for them. They are a changing band and even their former bassist Cliff Burton said he would eventually leave hte band to start a jazz band (that obviously was before he died). I can understand tho the mentality of fans who have followed them since their start who might be upset by the changes, but since i picked up on them around 98, i kind of have a different perspective on it. I have been happy with just about everthing Metallica does, I am a big fan of change and I like to see bands change things up a little bit, even if they are my favorite band of all time.

No way in hell I would sign. Yes Metallica was good back in their day. But the time has come for these guys to hang up their sneakers.

Save Metallica from what, themselves? IMO, there is only so much a producer can do to make a record suck or be great. The fact that St Anger was so horrible compared to their older stuff was that they didn't seem to put any effort into it and were too busy suing Napster to make a good record. Plus, Metallica knew they could do a half-assed job and still sell millions of copies to their loyal fans, there was no incentive for doing a good job.
