Does anyone know where (and what) the L3 button on the PS2 console is?

On an analog controller, when you push the little toggle thingies down, that is L3 and R3 :)

I didn't bother about it much until my brother couldn't start a game because he needed to use L3 to get through. Heh.

When I first tried to figure out with L3 or R3 was I went straight to the manual for help. What I found was that it was telling me to press down on the joy stick. Which I thought meant pushing down on the stick, not pushing down on the stick as if it were a button.
