Yeah, indie. I've been listening to it a lot lately and I like it. Anyone else like it? Does anyone know some more awesome bands for me to check out?
I listen to a lot of independent artists (as in not signed to a label), but "indie" has changed in meaning dramatically. As for the "genre" of "indie", I don't really like it much, per se.
What would you consider 'indie'? A genre, or a type of band (e.g unsigned or belonging to an independent label) Interpol? Skindred? Death Cab for Cutie? The Arcade Fire? The Postal Service? Future Leaders of the world? These are all pretty good bands, but i'm not sure whether they meet the definition of 'indie'. I'd say that they're worth checking out. And some on the college circuit. Billboard has an independent label album chart.
indie, for me, means unsigned and underground. sometimes i believe bands are unsigned for a reason: they aren't great. but then again, many bands try to sabotage themselves so that they never get discovered and never get played on the radio. this is understandable when you consider power corrupts and can influence music negatively.
If you like the Killers, try the Bravery. The Killers are actually beefing with them because they think that they're (the Bravery) are knockoffs. Try Louis XIV
DARTS! are the closest thing to indie style rock that I can recommend. *points to sig* Mogwai and Interpol are also pretty good.
I like Death Cab for Cutie, The Postal Service, Bright Eyes, Cursive, An Angle, a little Tilly and the Wall.. my friend listens to a lot of indie. it's good stuff.
Eh, another bullshit term. Indie means independent, so roughly any band of any genre could be independent of a record label, such as Crotchduster, Misery Index, or Heaven Shall Burn. I guess it also stretches out to independent movies as well?
Modest Mouse Radiohead Postal Service Louis XIV The Strokes Hot Hot Heat Stellastarr* Interpol Yeah Yeah Yeahs
"indie" can either be the bands that are unsigned and independent. or "indie" can be well....i really dont have any way to describe an indie band, but when i listen to one i know right off that it is indie.
how are the killers, interpol, modest mouse, the strokes etc. indie? they are signed to labels. all these bands have a retro, softer feel, i'd say, but this doesn't make them indie whatsoever.
i wouldnt class feeder as indie - but their lastest album is a little softer i think indie is hard to define because theres that many bands that fall into that category which are so different to eachother. my favourite inde band at the moment is either maximo park or the futureheads. (the futureheads because they come from near where i live....... )
