Ok, so the title sucks, sorry, not feeling creative. Anyways, I was in the Is War Worth It? thread not too long ago, and became interested in some quotes that the G to the e to the orge said. I looked some more up, read them, laughed, and read some more...and laughed some more. But I got an idea, after looking at some more serious quotes. Some of you may not like this thread, or think it's stupid. As for the admins if you think it's pointless, lock it, no harm done. I just thought it might be kinda cool to post some intelligent, thought-provoking quotes. So, here is my list... "They that can give up essential liberty, to obtain a little temporary safety, deserve neither liberty nor safety." - Benjamin Franklin “Other than telling us how to live, think, marry, pray, vote, invest, educate our children and die, I think the Republicans have done a fine job of getting government out of our personal lives.” - Craig Carter “Should any political party attempt to abolish social security, unemployment insurance, and eliminate labor laws and farm programs, you would not hear of that party again in our political history. There is a tiny splinter group, of course, that believes you can do these things. Among them are [a] few other Texas oil millionaires, and an occasional politician or business man from other areas. Their number is negligible and they are stupid.” - President Dwight D. Eisenhower "Lives based on having are less free than lives based either on doing or on being. " - William James "I'm Rick James, bitch." - Rick James ....How'd that get in there... I have more but I'm sure I'll post again later.
(in dutch, sorry) "Cultuur is de mate waarin de mens zichzelf verhindert te doen waarin zijn lagere ik zin heeft." -Simon Carmiggelt It means something like this: "Culture is measured by how much man prohibits himself from doing what his lower self wants to do."
Give a man a fish and you feed him for a day. Teach a man how to fish, and you feed him for a lifetime. -Confucius I'm sure a lot of you have heard that one already.
The beauty of religious mania is that it has the power to explain everything. Once God (or Satan) is accepted as the first cause of everything which happens in the mortal world, nothing is left to chance... logic can be happily tossed out the window. Stephen King
"Good judgment comes from experience. Experience comes from bad judgment." --Margaret Atwood "Though we travel the world over to find the beautiful, we must carry it with us or we find it not." --Henry David Thoreau
“First, God created idiots. That was just for practice. Then He created school boards.” --Mark Twain I just thought that was funny. I'll think of a better one later.
Fighting was the only thing....the only thing I was good at. But at least I always fought for what I believed in... -Grey Fox, Metal Gear Solid Dwelling on one's past causes one to become imobilized. My resolve to live with my past is the greatest weapon I have now... -Kenshin, Rurouni Kenshin Might not be word for word, but I like them. Also, I had a lot more but my computer was taken in to be repaired yesterday and they were saved to it.
"You can't be old and wise without being young and crazy" Got it from a friend on MySpace, don't know where he got it from.
Being the crazy liberal I am.. "Conservatives are not necessarily stupid, but most stupid people are conservatives." - John Stuart Mill
"When in doubt, pinky out!" -Patrick Star (SpongeBob Squarepants) "This just in, underage drinking is bad." -Ryan Stiles I'm so civilized.
Parce que chaque mot qu’on dit est un mot qui reste et qui peut revenir quand on s’y attend le moins. - Calvino (Couldn't find the English translation so it's something like: ''Because every word we say stays and can come back whenever we least expect it'') Most people are other people. Their thoughts are someone else's opinions, their lives a mimicry, their passions a quotation. - Wilde One is tempted to define man as a rational animal who always loses his temper when he is called upon to act in accordance with the dictates of reason. - Wilde I choose my friends for their good looks, my acquaintances for their good characters, and my enemies for their good intellects. A man cannot be too careful in the choice of his enemies. - Wilde
