But then again, my birthday's coming in 2 months. Nikola - You should borrow that to me when you're done. edit_ After reading Nate's post I just realised we're offtopic. oO Somehow I forgot this is an Apple topic.

I personally doubt it but I'm not sure.
I could see it dropping slightly, or going on sale, but I don't expect any huge drops. *shrug* *writes up a birthday/christmas list*

there is no 60gig photo...well...unless you mean the ones left at your local store that sells iPods. No, by christmas i'm guessing there will be only 60 and 80 gig iPods. But as for a price drop? I highly doubt it. I will be surprised if they sale the 60 gig for 299 and the 80 for 399. I'll be a bit upset then.
80 gig is possible, but they're not going to discontinue the 30 gig after it's been out for 2 months. If anything, I'm guessing 30/60/80 gig at $299/399/499
Look, this is apple. the most evilest company next to microsoft. OF COURSE they'll have a price drop by christmas, every company does. but I don't think there going to come out with an 80gig ipod, their are very little people that need it.(tomi has like 4.5 gigs). I think that they'll just come out will a new shuffle. its cheap and at a good stocking stuffer. all plausable

Anything lower would completley kill the sales of the Nano. There's only a $50 difference between the 4 gig Nano and 30 gig video iPod. Apple is not going to shrink that gap anymore, because if they did, no one would buy the Nanos when they can spend a few more and get a regular iPod.

They will however, make little tiny deals with iTuens gift cards or iPod accesories as they have done in previous years. Why people would want to iPod price to drop is beyond me, they launch the new iPod with video functionality at the same price the old one had. You're getting more, for the same amount of money.
Hm? I have a 1.5GB player and 7,000 songs on my computer (about 40GB, can't remember exactly).
oh. no. I ment you had 40.5 gigs of music. i forgot the 0

then they should decrease the price of both...but they can't...they're Apple.
They can't because if they reduced the prices of all of their MP3 players, they wouldn't be making any profit and that's how companies work. Ever wonder why no other company has been able to offer MP3 players as good as iPods for the same price or less? Because they need to make profit. Apple's profit margins on the iPod are pretty slim, and they have their hardware and software to cover all of the companies expensive. Other manufacturers like Creative and Rio don't sell anything but MP3 players so they need to actually rake in money with the players, thus the crappier players and higher costs.

Component cost of video iPod estimated at $151 That's about 50%.
Factor in packaging, shipping, R&D, paying the people who work in the factories, paying anyone else involved with the iPod at Apple, ect, and it's not 50%. Components are not the only costs associated with an electronic device.
