I listened to two new albums this year. Two. I rarely have been keeping up with the music scene let alone paying attention. Thus, I only answered 10.

It's a problem I ran into last year when I was running it. I think I had a rule that two votes or something got the candidate into that genre, and as you saw, there were "What the Duece?" moments, like how Good Charlotte ended up being classified as Hard Rock, among other random mistakes.

So in a sense, yes, it is a matter of opinion. However, classifying a band as something that it isn't (Case and point, Good Charlotte last year) should be avoided so confusion doesn't arise.

See Amy? This is what you to look forward to. :)

Most bands fall into various genres, though. A lot of bands take home awards in two different categories (such as hard rock and metal).

There's a difference between punk and punk-rock. When looking at 'The Artist in the Ambulance', many classified Thrice as punk rock, meaning they have punk influences fused with hard rock. Although 'Vheissu' is more of a hard rock type album, they're sometimes referred to as a punk rock band.

The new Thrice CD is more post-hardcore than anything.

yeah, i get your point mark. but even though TAITA was "fast", it wasn't punk or punk-rock, whatever you will call it. "fast" isnt an indicator for that.

but in the end, we'll head for a dead-end if we go on discussing it. to my mind, thrice - vheissu is totally not punk, maybe because i live in germany and know some german punk bands whose music i truely dislike... (music, not lyrics)

Actaully, I did alot of "back-tracking" this year. Everything I downloaded pretty much was stuff from the 90's.

    ---

Ever since I've started listen to Thrice (Somewhere about two years ago), I've been classifying them in the punk/punk rock genre ever since. I tend to refer to their old material (Identity Crisis, The Illusion of Saftey, First Impressions) but Artist In The Ambulance does have alot of more or less punk rock. So does Vheissu, whether or not you notice it. They're a punk-rock band even though they may not play all out complete punk music.

Will, to me post-hardcore falls under the Punk Genre.

But yeah, like Will said, It's a matter of opinion and we will end up in a dead-end if we discuss this further as Trumtram also said.

indeed, identity crisis is really punkish. and i get the point in classifying thrice as punk, but it's not even close to their musical abilities and songs which they've created. :)
