An example of the lax environmental regulations in Canada, a country that is supposed to be environmentally aware. But of course, corporations can dump whatever they want and get away with it. If this wasn't a Native reserve that was being affected, you would have already heard about this, no doubt. Its a prime example of how corporations externalize their costs onto others to increase profits.
That's a huge mis-step on part of the Government. Martin needs to buff up his environmental stance and make sure his corresponding cabinet members do so as well.
well the damage is already done, it really doesn't matter what they do now to the people already exposed to this stuff. so even if everyone relocates, they aren't going to get any better. they should just condemn the whole area and pay for everyone to go somewhere else.
Does he still have any power? With the whole political mess in Canada, I wasn't quite left with a clear outcome of who was punished and how severely.
At the moment, no. But when the election in January is over, the Liberals will have another minority government, by the way things are going. The sponsorship scandal happened during the Chretien-led Liberals, not the Martin-led liberals, and Martin (Finance Minister at the time) was completely exonerated of any wrongdoing by the Gomery Report, an independantly run investigation.
