I havent brought a CD for myself in the last year and a half.
I have over 68.8GB of music and ten thousand files.

Now i know what i do is wrong but for all the music I like i could never afford to get all the songs.

Lyrics are copyrighted material, so are tabs I'm guessing. Just like songs are. It's a dumb move, sure, but they can do it.

I've put over $1800 into my music collection. I don't even have a job, either, so don't give me that crap.

It's the year 2020, a time of oppression. Locked in his room attempting to find inspiration, a young guitarist sits strumming some notes, and absent-mindedly starts playing the riff to Smoke On the Water. As he hits the last note, the FBI busts through the doorway and shoots him dead.

This is what the world is going to come to if the RIAA keeps pushing it.

Pretty soon, the FBI is going to bust through our front doors and kidnap us every time we listen to a song.

    I swear.

    Um ok...

Correct me if I am wrong, but tab sites like mxtabs and Ultimate Guitar are compiled of tabs by people who listen to a song, and tab what they believe they hear. That is not in any way copyright infringement. Now, sure, if a person takes the tabs from an official booklet and posts them on a site, I suppose that would be copyright infringement. But there is a difference.

And the same goes for lyrics. (Replace tabs with words.)

This is completely ridiculous. I went to mxtabs regularly every week, seeing as I'm to lazy to play by ear. Seeing as all I ever do is play bass, and I'm always looking for new songs, this pisses me off.

I wouldn't worry too much, there's so many lyrics/tabs sites out there, I doubt they will ever be able to get them all.

I don't even care about the lyrics, I was just making a point. But there is no tab site anywhere near the quality of mxtabs for bass tabs. I could find nearly any bass tab...there is no site that even compares to mxtabs. And to get a site that was as big as it will be impossible if its illegal now, the site will get shut down before its even half as large and diverse.

    EDIT
"We the Undersigned hereby formally petition the Music Publishers' Association (MPA) of the United States of America on behalf of musicians across the globe regarding the MPA's decision to take legal action against guitar, bass, and other tablature and musical interpretation websites. We believe that interpretation of copyrighted musical scores does not constitute copyright infringement as the interpretations are the sole property of the interpretor. Furthermore, we believe that the ability of any musician with access to the Internet to view and download these interpretations is essential to the vitality of the music industry as well as paramount to the spirit of the music itself. On these grounds we urge the MPA to reconsider its decision to take legal action against websites hosting the aforementioned interpretations. "

    http://www.petitiononline.com/mioti/petition.html

I urge all of you musicians to sign this petition directed to the MPA, and tell your friends who play to sign it too. Maybe something like this isn't important to a person who doesn't play an instrument, but it is important to me, and it should be important to any other musician. They already went to far, now this?

ok that didnt work for me, but anyway, what i hate is how they are talking on behalf of every band in the world, and i mean, like someone said, its not even like everyband has tab books, or lyrics in an album sleeve thing.

this is, in the long run going to ruin music (not being over the top am i?), because new bands and new musicians trying to learn to play wont be able to, and so people will give up etc...

and yeh another thing, does that mean my guitar magazines are no longer gonna be able to have tabs in, even if they change it so they arent the way the band play anyway, because that was aleady against the law...im not making sense, il shut up now.
