    Rolling Stone recently tracked down LP co-frontman Chester Bennington to comment on the new Linkin Park album, from which 50 new songs have already been written, and Chester had this to say;

"It's dark and spooky, poppy and very melodic. Not a hard, heavy rock record. What it is, is fucking insane!"

This seems to contradict Chester's previous statement to MTV.com, where he said "I couldn't go into the studio the next day because of all the screaming I did. There will be A LOT of screaming."

Just to recap, that's "a lot of screaming", and "poppy and very melodic". Formulate your own explanations, I can't.

The album, produced by Rick Rubin, is due out in late summer 06.

    Thanks to Paul!

He could be joking about all that, but it sounds intresting. And I can kind of see how 'Dark' could mean 'a lot of screaming' IMO, but what really caught my eye was 'very melodic' thats what I like to read! Cant wait.

I think Chester is just fucking with us.

Guys, I don't think Chester is joking. Of course, the way he describes the new album to be is sort of bothersome, but maybe he just found the wrong way to describe it. Maybe it means something else and that we're taking it the wrong way.

I don't know. As said, you can't judge until the album is released.

    maybe hes just being honest.....
people complained about how LP described Meteora as dark and hard....and people said it was poppy...
So maybe chester was thinking.....well, if people think thats poppy I guess this album will be considered poppy too..

    Ok Im over thinking this.......

There are good lp songs that arnt heavy so Im not really that worried.
As long as LP fans like it thats all that matters.....

I think so too. I don't believe anything he says about the new album. I think he's just making contradicting statements to keep us guessing. He was fucking with us when he spoke about "all the screaming" & he's fucking with us now, in my opinion.

I don't think even Linkin Park can define what their next album is going to sound like, especially in a few words. The truth is, at the moment the "album" probably doesn't even have a set theme. They're just recording and experementing with different tracks which probably aren't restricted to one set style that the album will be based around.

I think it will be dark...I don't think it will be poppy...but then again, who knows...this is driving me nuts now...

Linkin Park are poppy already. They are accessible and they write simple, catchy songs.

The only thing I can think of with the bipolar descriptions is that the direction has changed since Chester's description of the album with a lot of screaming (in preproduction at Mike's house) and when Rick Rubin came into the picture the material got a lot more melodic. Just a thought.

I don't care about melodic cause Chester has a pretty nice singing voice, as long as Rick Rubin doesn't turn them into Nsync with guitars.

If he does I'm going to be very upset.

I doubt that considering previous bands he's worked with were System of a Down, Metallica, Slayer, etc... unless he had a secret vendetta against LP, dun dun duuuuu, lol

There were multiple reports with Mike also saying that Chester has been doing a lot of screaming. So, I don't think he was joking about the screaming. (I think)

This is from an interview with Mike:
    From LPTIMES:
And another interview with Mike about release date: (semi-random)
    From LPTIMES:

This new statement that he made almost sounds sarcastic in a way. Well, that's just how it came across to me.
