Unlike the RIAA, the CRIA does actually have brains. Instead of pointing the finger at downloaders, they've proven that downloading does NOT hurt business.

I hope the RIAA can take a hint. *shakes head*

    The RIAA take a hint?

You act like the RIAA can make reasonable conclusions based on valid evidence.

Hah, yeah. I have my doubts.

The study will fly right over their heads as they go sue some random 102 year old grandmother in accusation that she's been downloading hardcore.

Actually, it's not exactly from CBC. They're summarizing what Michael Geist had written.

If you're trying to go for extreme, I think that they've already beat you.

If memory serves, they actually sued someone who was dead.

the RIAA has issues...its like just one of those organizations out to make your life miserable for no apprent reason...at least someone has the brains to actually go do research to support the other side of the story...

Ironically, the CRIA is the Canadian [powerless] equivalent of the RIAA.

The RIAA may know full well that downloading does not hurt sales, but why would they stop their little campaign? They're getting money.

People aren't buying music anymore because everything that's changed with CDs in the last few years is turning people off. I hate buying a CD and barely being able to see the album artwork because of all the anti-piracy logos all over the damned thing, or even on the CD itself. I also don't like the idea of having my computer get fucked up because I tried to play a CD in it and it had some invasive anti-piracy software on it.

Here's a revolutionary concept: Let people enjoy their music however they please! Lars from Metallica bitches about music downloading to no end, but I bet when Metallica was starting out, they'd hand out cassettes to people with their songs on them for free. It's the same thing.

The public is seeing how easy it is to actually make CDs. When they can make their own mix CDs by downloading music and burning CD-R's for less than half the cost, why bother paying for a whole CD if you're listening to one song anyways?

Downloading is competition for record labels. That's why the RIAA goes after it.
