    Here are bands I like:

    AFI (STS and DU only)
    Adema (Old and New)
Billy Talent (A little, just started listening)
Breaking Benjamin (A bit. Not a big fan of the singer though)
Bullet For My Valentine (Minus screaming and some long instrumental sessions)
    Drowining Pool (Sinner only)
    Evanescence (Just Awesome)
    Lacuna Coil (When in English)
    Linkin Park (My favourite)
    Lost Prophets (Mainly TFSOP)
Midnight Panic (Not as much as Adema though)
My Chemical Romance (But I don't like one of the many clonish emo bands)
Nine Inch Nails (With Teeth and Pretty Hate Machine. That's What I Get and Something I Can Never Have)
    Papa Roach (Awesome)
Seether (The song Love Her is my favourite)
Stabbing Westward (All four of their releases)
The Blank Theory (One of my better liked ones)
The Used (Although a bit poppy at times)
Three Days Grace (Just trying them)
Unloco (I like their second CD. Texas is my favourite song)

    Bands I Dislike:

    Chevelle (BORING!)
Children of Bodom (Screaming an dinstrumentals)
POD (Okay idea, but the style of most songs isn't great)
Story of the Year (Too typical)
    Taking Back Sunday (Too typical)

Hoobastank (they have some good songs)
Element eighty (they kick so much ass)
    Disturbed (awesome)
    KoRn (they're necessary)

lol...well...I could go on but....I don't know wich bands you already have/know/want/hate and what else not...

KoRn have a couple good songs, but it seems you have to wade through too much crap to reach it. Not a fan.

Disturbed are mediorce. I ahve their stuff, but don't love it.

Hoobastank's singles I'm not a big fan of.

    - Faith No More. They had a pretty massive influence on quite a few of the bands you (esaul17) mentioned.
    - Hundred Reasons. They sound a tad similar in places to the new Lostprophets album, but harder.

Unless you despise any sort of screaming, try Lamb of God. Their newest album will probably be the most accessible, Ashes of the Wake. and like Franny said, Fall of Troy.

Or Fugazi, Mastodon, Rage Against The Machine, and Tool.

I'm not sure about Fugazi. I mean they're a decent band but they're of a similar ilk to TBS, kinda.

Fugazi is far from TBS. Fugazi is actual emo. Like real emo, not "scene" emo.

I recommend listening to some good AFI albums. Seriously, I'm not even trying to be a jerk. You'd probably like Art Of Drowning.

As far as other bands...try Thursday. They're really good, and kind of similar to some of the things you like. Do you listen to UnderOath? They remind me of a lot of the bands on your list.

And um...if you like Decemberunderground, you might want to check out some good 80's music.

I didn't say they were extremely similar. I don't care which band is more 'real emo', as far as I'm concerned they aren't that far removed sonically. Oh wait, Fugazi have underground cred and TBS don't, so even mentioning both in the same sentence is a cardinal sin. I do apologise.

The amount of sarcasm in those statements sicken me.

If you wanted me to better understand you're statement, than instead of saying "of similar ilk", and trying to sound intelligent, you should have said "I think that they sound the same but both have a different aspect to there music".

And you totaly blew my words out of context, good work.

I wasn't trying to sound intelligent. I didn't mention ethics or anything in my post, so I figured people would realise that I was talking about the actual music and nothing totally irrelevant such as what kind of 'emo' the two bands are, but unfortunately you took my words out of context. Good work.
Also, if you're going to insult my intelligence again, please do so in a post where you don't confuse the spelling of 'their' with 'there'. Thanks.

Well I looked into them because I like the sound of TBS and I only thought of them sounding alike. I don't even get "real emo". If a band has emo lyrics they're emo, right? How can you separate them? Just because one is more mainstream popular? I seriously don't understand.

I would recommend Faktion. Their self titled is real good and they have an EP if you can find it.

    Maybe even try Flyleaf.

OMG REAL EMO FAKE EMO EMO YOU DON'T KNOW EMO EMO LYRICS EMO KIDS LETS MAKE FUN OF EMO I HATE EMO EMO SCENE EMO.

    WHO THE HELL CARES?!

I know I sound kind of rude, but if you like the music, then come up with reasons without using the word emo. I really want the word "emo" abolished from every language. Unless it means something of worth in a different language, then it can stay in that language.

this wasn't aimed toward Franny, Dean, or zakrisk, but rather everyone in the world.
    <3youall.

regarding the actual debate, I don't think Fugazi sounds too awfully similar to Taking Back Sunday, though there is some common ground between them. but Dean's comment about "underground cred" was something else I've been wanting to rant about. I think a lot of people here hold popularity as too large of a factor in regards to music. for example, Coraline is a pretty underground band, but are shit, while The Beatles, the biggest band in history as far as popularity, are probably some of the best songwriters around. on the same token, popular bands like The Used (to me) are shit, while more underground bands like Portugal. The Man are very good.

again, not directed to anyone specifically, but rather LPA as a whole.

Oh but I agree with you 100%. I hate the label of emo. It's so often used out of context and is stupid to begin with.
