I didn't think that I had a debt to pay Until they came to take what I had left away You said you wouldn't put me to the test today But I remember you saying that yesterday There was a time when your mind wasn't out of control Every memory and confession pouring out of your soul Like a pill you couldn't swallow, so you swallowed it whole Another lie, hard to follow, it followed you home And like that (Broken down, a victim of your crime) This lie is so out of control Every memory and confession pouring out of your soul And like that (Broken down, a victim of your...) Lies You hide behind your lies You don't know why You crossed the line You're wrapped up inside, Your Lies You hide behind your lies You're lost inside that cold disguise Behind your lies... Hard to know what I thought I might say Seems like we never would talk the right way Every other minute I'm far from my place A job without pay, I thought you might say So, I'm guessing that you probably know When your insides hollow then you ought to be cold Like the pure thoughts you stole, it's going to swallow you whole Another lie, hard to follow, it followed you home And like that (Broken down, a victim of your...) Lies You hide behind your lies You don't know why You crossed the line You're wrapped up inside, Your Lies You hide behind your lies You're lost inside that cold disguise Behind your lies... You're faking, you're mistaken If you think I'm taking what's pouring out your soul Forsaken, what would take me Everything about my knowing soul Broken down, a victim of you Faking, you're mistaken If you think I'm taking what's pouring out your soul Broken down, a victim of your Lies You hide behind your lies You don't know why You hide behind your lies You don't know why You hide behind... You're wrapped up inside Your lies You hide behind your lies You don't know why You crossed the line You're wrapped up inside, Your Lies You hide behind your lies You're lost inside that cold disguise Behind your lies... Yeah, it very well could be, we'll see what other people say and edit it in if it is the case. I'm still unsure about this whole section: ...but it's the best I could make out after a few stabs at what it possibly could be.
Well now that I think about it, they did make an improvement with their music but not with their lyrics. At least in this song.
Hybrid Theory still smashes this in my eyes (lyrically). Songs like A Place For My Head, Forgotten, and Part of Me are still on a higher level. Maybe they really needed Mark Wakefield's input.
I don't know. I don't really agree with you at all there. This song seems levels above Meteora and back on base with the Hybrid Theory EP.
This definately goes beyond Meteora, but I wouldn't even consider it on par with HT, lyrically. As a song in general, it can be debated as one of their best songs, but lyrically it isn't the best. Though I think HTEP and the Xero songs beat out everything. The Xero songs sound pointless right? Do some research, there's quite a bit of meaning inside. Mike was a clever one. Either that or it was pure luck/coincidence.
Do some research? Watch what you say buddy. I don't think you want to go and start picking random fights with people...considering I have Linkin Park's whole discography on my computer including when they were Xero, when they were Hybrid Theory, and as well as the major releases and the LPU stuff. I know their lyrics and these lyrics are not bad. I don't have any idea what you consider to be good, lyrically, but this is by no means, bad.
Heh, sorry. That wasn't directed to you at all. It was just a general statement. And I said nothing about bad lyrics. I love Linkin Park and I'm on the same key as you (in terms of having all that music and knowing the lyrics).
In order for it to be on par lyrically with any of their best material previous to (and including) the debut, it would have to be chock full of clever metaphors and non-straight forward lines. This song is more straight forward and doesn't really include any big metaphors or clever lines, but it is by no means a bad song lyrically, especially when compared to 'Meteora'. Another thing that is different about this song is that it's more about someone else than it is about themselves. Notice how almost everything on 'Hybrid Theory' was introspective.
About the lyrics, The Wizard song has the best one But I´m still thinking the plight/crime/pride/... thing isn´t right...
Goin ova the lyrics You said you wouldn't put me to the test today in the song it sounds like: You said you wrong footed me in the test today
