...to each his own, I guess... I can't say I agree with that. I'd say she's a little too corporate-influenced to be straight up punk, but she never said she wasn't. I refuse to use the words, "Avril" and, "poser" in the same sentence until someone can give me a real quote of her saying she's wicked punk rock. I mean, honestly when did she say she wasn't pop, to some degree?
Her sound isn't punk. I think she's only punk in the sense that she doesn't give a flying fuck what the media thinks.
What are your opinions on bands such as Green Day, blink-182 or The Offspring? 'Cos i honestly don't know, but i totally disagree when people start labelling them as emo.
No, emo is just a word that people throw at everything they're too lazy to really classify. I consider The Offspring a punk band, largely because of their involvement in Nitro Records. Green Day...I'd say they used to be heavily punk influenced and then they let the corporate world get to them. Blink 182 was and will always just be a fun pop/punk band for high school freshmen to laugh at. Honestly, I don't have a problem with any of these bands.
Jesus, I hate when when people use the word 'emo' as a negative term to describe music. It's bullshit. I don't really like much music that could properly be called emo, but I don't have a problem with it, but all the people who think that they are tough try to describe all music that has lyrics that stray away from humour or fucking as emo. All the punk I like is called emo because emo is a punk sub genre, all the metal I like is called emo because of the dark subject manner (same goes with punk). It just pisses me off.
Just so everyone knows. Emo = hardcore punk without the macho bullshit. Basically, kids were getting sick of getting there ass kicked by these huge fucking douchebags. So they decided to play music for the little people that was less brain dead and had more intellengence. There is no breakups or suicides. Kthxbye. Punk is all about your personal opinon. It's all about what you think is punk. Fuck, I think bands like Acid Mothers Temple and Augustus Pablo are punk. And Augustus Pablo is a reggae muscian. You just have to live your life without letting people tell you what to think. That's what punk is to me.
I agree completely. Like I said, I think Woody Guthrie was wicked punk. Desmond Dekker, Johnny Cash, Tom Waits...I mean, as far as attitudes go. Living for yourself, being an individual, and making your own decisions about how you want to live your life...just living for yourself...that's how I define punk.
Exactly, it's possible for people to be more then one thing. Johnny Cash is Punk, Goth, and Country all at the same time, he doesn't have to fit in any particular box.
Oh please, if three chord music that sounds like pretty much everything else is punk, then he put the nail on the head. It's about personal opinon people.
Punk wasn't really started as a political movement as much as it was a movement to take rock 'n roll back to it's roots. It just so happened that a lot of the rock and rollers of the punk scene became heavily involved with politics. Punk was more of an outlet for the freaks, rejects, misfits, outcasts, and losers to do their own thing. It was a "f*ck you" to the lame ass rock 'n roll and disco of the 1970s. I seriously wish I wrote this, because this is what punk is to me.
The 70's was full of some of the greatest rock music ever written. And, I don't know what the quote means by roots, as 70's rock is the roots of rock. Before that you had elvis and the beatles. Without 70's rock, Punk would be nothing. I have no comment on disco.
Rise Against....Now thats a band thats meaningful They turn political subjects like Refugees,Animal Cruelty ect ect into awsome songs....Just listen to "Prayer of the Refugee" One of the greatest punk songs I ever heard!
