Mike recently posted on the linkinpark.com message board and gave some comments regarding "Minutes to Midnight" & what we can expect.

"yes, MINUTES TO MIDNIGHT, like the doomsday clock. don't take that at face value. there are layers of meaning, most are metaphoric. yes, "what i've done" is the first single. again, not face value.

no, not emo. also, not rap rock, not nu metal, not metal, not punk, not scene, not hip hop, not classic rock, not polka, not any other lame label [IMG]

    yes, may 15th.

anyway, thanks for sticking around and being here for the big news. we love you guys, and can't wait for you to hear the new music!"

    -------------------

"the solo isn't 2 minutes. but i think it gets the point across in about half that time. we were excited to have broken the 6 minute mark on that song, though..."

I think it's fair to say this album will have to be drastically different to sound good with solos and an Arcade Fireesque array of instruments.

"no, not emo. also, not rap rock, not nu metal, not metal, not punk, not scene, not hip hop, not classic rock, not polka, not any other lame label"

That is particularly pleasant to hear.
Now, Bring on "What I've done".

P.S.: (Have I spelled "particularly" wrong?...)

Notice how he said "No, not emo" seperately from everything else? They're been on the boards, they've seen how people are worried about them going emo. Obviously he was keen to shoot down that theory, thank you Mike.
And i think that implies we're getting a minute long guitar solo. Wow, can't wait for this

Im currently very confused about what kind of music it will be.
Anything near QWERTY & Reading my eyes?

Why reading my eyes? That song is 10 years old now, no way would they go that far backwards.
And it shouldn't be like QWERTY, thats too much like the old sound.

Oh, right, I just remembered that reading my eyes was an old song but only "discovered" newly.
Well, QWERTY does sound something like the old linkin park, but its still heavier than HT and Meteora songs.

I never worried about them going emo, they're too agressive to be emo, but I am not happy about this prospective Projekt Revolution with MCR, Im sure they're very good at what they do but I personally cant stand them, and being such a huge fan of Pjkt:Rev I am really gutted about this, especially since 2004 was so awesome, (Korn and Less than Jake!), hopefully they can get Evanescene on their too, if they do, the possible additions of MCR and Coheed and Cambria I can just about handle, since I'll just write it off as a sign of the times,

But it is apparant that LP or LP managment have jumped right on the money train if they get MCR, they're tryna' exploit the new youth market, just as Metallica amongst others did with them not so long ago,

i wonder if you know emo music is aggressive and mcr and coheed aren't emo.

i'm going to have a comment for anything emo mentioned in this thread.

still excited, i really do like the direction they're going. but i'm not more or less worried about the sound, i'm woried about the lyrics.

    Okay Cowbell. What's emo?

What do you mean newly discovered? I don't think there's an LP fan around that doesn't know about the Xero years.

Also when I first heard QWERTY I would have loved it to have been on the new album but then after hearing the studio version I knew straight away that it was a song that would only sound energetic performed live.

Who cares if MCR might be on Projekt Rev. They aren't the worst band out there, that's for sure.
