I find nothing wrong with Jamey Jasta's vocals. It's hardcore. Pure hardcore. Not that little punk ass emo/scene 'hardcore' vocals.
Thing is that Corey Taylor and Howard Jones are just simply amazing vocalists. Probably in my top 5 favourite and most rated. I used to think the same about Matt Heafy but then...well...you know.
That's why those are good examples of bands that have "bear vocals" or scream a lot because they can also really sing. They can actually sing really good.
The fact they can sing doesn't make their clean vocals better. I'd rather hear some singers like Rob Flynn "scream" or "rap" the entire time than try and do melodic vocals that just don't fit (although sometimes a good vocal idea can be performed with passion, which fills in for technique). Zao have the best screaming frontman, as far as this kind of music goes. You know, in my opinion and stuff ;p [/offtopic]
I must have missed the impressive technicality of heavy metal songs; I do agree there are bands that play good riffs and melodies, some even stand out (Opeth among them) but to claim nothing gets more technical... And those vocals ruin all... Vocals should enhace the song, "carry" the lyrics, and it's not the case with heavy metal. http://youtube.com/watch?v=r7h18c94C64
Hmmm 3 Inches of Blood was just announced. I like them, but still, not good enough for me to really want to go. Also announced is Daath
I sometimes feel like that. I like trivium (old stuff) but I dont like Chimaira, the singing in triviums stuff sort of makes it better I guess. But then I like Lamb of God, and they only scream. So I dont know whats wrong with me lol.
It really annoys me many people that that music with screaming/death grunts ect. makes is 'bad'(I'm not directing this at one person, I jut thought of this when reading this thread). I know three people who like somewhat 'extreme' music, and I rarely see them, so every other opinion on Extreme Metal and the such, the music that I love, is about how it isn't music, it's just 'screaming and random music' which is bullshit. This song could have some of the most technical instrumentation, and greatest lyrics ever, but they don't give it a chance because it's loud and non-commercial. Those are the kind of people that I would classify as musical idiots, and are probably some of the most artistialy ignorant people ever. I think it's okay not to like something, but don't it would likely benefit you to listen before you make stupid opinions. And on the Ozzfest, it looks killer, I wish it was coming to Edmonton. Nile, Hatebreed, Daath, all very good bands and excellent live.
im really not feeling the ozzfest this year, i went last year and was in the pit, it was amazing, but i hated ozzy's performance, it reminded me of an old guy trying to rock out
