As if their remarkable debut on the American billboard charts was not enough, it appears as if Linkin Park have taken over the world with Minutes To Midnight, if record sales are to be of any indication. In the album's first week of sales, Minutes To Midnight has gone number one in several countries, with platinum record sales (already!) in several countries including (but not limited to) Australia, Japan, Singapore and Canada.

    Quoting from their official myspace:

"One week after its international release, the album has debuted #1 in the US, UK, Germany, France, Switzerland, Norway, Hong Kong, Japan, Mexico, South Africa, Philippines, Italy, Sweden, Austria, and Ireland and is certified platinum in Australia, Canada, Indonesia, New Zealand, Japan, Singapore, Austria, Switzerland, and France. It has also been certified gold in Czech, France, Germany, Ireland, Italy, Korea, Malaysia, Portugal, Singapore, South Africa, Taiwan, Thailand and UK. “We’re shocked and humbled by this extraordinary show of support. We invested ourselves entirely into the creation of this album, with the hope that this music would resonate with our fans as deeply as it does with us. We couldn’t be more excited about today’s news,” said guitarist, Brad Delson."

I think their blog did that on purpose. First to say where it debuted, and second to say whether it was gold/platinum.

platinum is different in all countries. In Canada, 500 000 sold is platinum i believe. I have yet to buy this sucker, i was so close to getting it though, but my bike busted lol

Now we need a single to boost these sales up even higher. I nominate "Bleed It Out". (w00t)

No need for math. Public knowledge/label reports state that LP have sold over 40 million records worldwide, not counting MTM. They are the largest selling band of this century.

In each country platinum is per a total of cds sold... but each one has their one number!

calculating this auhuhaa i wanna know how many albuns (MTM) have been sold till´ now!

ps - if someone understood me...i will be glad :p

I feel like doing out this math for everybody. I need a reason not to start my homework. Here goes nothing.

    According to http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Music_recording_sales_certification
by country, they have sold AT LEAST the following:

    Platinum

    Australia: 70,000
    Austria: 30,000
    Canada: 100,000
    France: 200,000
    Japan: 250,000
    Indonesia: 50,000
    New Zealand: 15,000
    Singapore: 15,000
    Switzerland: 30,000

    Gold

    Czech- Not listed
    Germany- 100,000
    Ireland- not listed
    Italy- 40,000
    Korea- Not listed
    Malaysia- 15,000
    Portugal- 10,000
    South Africa- not listed
    Taiwan- not listed
    Thailand- not listed
    UK- 100,000
    US- 625,000

Without taking into account the countries not listed, the album has sold an absolute minimum of 1.65 million copies. In reality, it could be nearing 2 million. That is amazing.

    Go LP!

Ok. I looked up album certifications at the link below and got an estimate of total records sold worldwide.

    http://www.ifpi.org/content/library/certification-award-levels.pdf

    U.S. - 623,000+ units

    Platinum:

    Canada - 100,000+ units
    Australia - 70,000+ units
    Japan – 250,000+ units
    France – 300,000+ units
    Austria - 20,000+ units
    Switzerland – 30,000+ units
    New Zealand - 15,000+ units
    Indonesia – 50,000+ units
    Singapore - 15,000+ units

    Gold:

    Germany – 100,000+ units
    UK – 100,000+ units
    Czech – 5,000+ units
    Italy- 40,000+ units
    Korea- 20,000+ units
    Portugal- 10,000+ units
    Ireland – 7,500+ units
    South Africa – 20,000+ units
    Malaysia – 15,000+ units
    Taiwan – 10,000+ units
    Thailand – 20,000+ units

Estimated Album Sales – 1,820,500+ units sold

This is if my math is correct and that I read the chart correctly.
