Yeah did you see the bootleg of that show on youtube? Chester said "Pearl Jam is such an amazing band and we have the honor to be playing before them". And then he said "That's a good example of who we want to be in ten years". The entire crowd then laughed and then Chester said "I mean twenty years". Did you see the mtv interview with Chester and Phoenix? They were like "It's just our goal to strive to be used in the same sentence as Metallica, The beatles, U2, and the Stones and only time will tell if we will or not". Both of those sound way too egotistical to fly. I mean let's face it, Linkin Park is a really awesome band, probably the best band from the last ten years or so for sure, but they are not "the best band in the world" and will never enter the golden circle with the likes of the greats listed up there...NEVER To even say something like that is really arrogant and misleading, especially when they have to change their sound just to survive so soon. Their not a revolutionary like Metallica.
Although there are some things about Linkin Park that have surfaced that I dislike, such as Chester's recent 'arrogance' and the lack of creativity in some of their recent music videos (i.e., Bleed It Out, even though the reverse fight scene was kind of cool), Linkin Park would have to do a shitload to make me dislike them. I think we can all admit right here and now that Linkin Park is not the best band in the world. Not a chance. They have yet to reach the league of bands like U2 and the Rolling Stones, Led Zeppelin and Pink Floyd, bands who have achieved great success. These sort of things took a lot of time though. Linkin Park is different. You guys know the Beatles. Now, I think we can also admit that truthfully, they weren't that great of a band either. Yeah, they had catchy tunes and whatnot, but they weren't *fantastic*. The thing about The Beatles, though, was that they were revolutionary. They took the whole world by storm despite their simplicity. The whole world fell in love with them. Everyone bought their records and tried to go to their concerts. It's near to the same thing with Linkin Park. Linkin Park isn't that great, but they were revolutionary. Hybrid Theory was the best selling debut of its year, and to date, Linkin Park is one of the best selling artists of the 21st century, with about 40 million records (correct me if I'm wrong). That's huge for a band at this time. Linkin Park has only 3 official records out, and have managed to sell 40 million. That's pretty good if you ask me. That's averaging about 13.5 million a record, guys. A lot of people seemed to dislike Minutes to Midnight but I don't think you guys realize how necessary it was. It set up so many open doors for the band for future records. This was a transition record. You have to realize that they weren't focusing on anything in particular, besides trying to move away from that signature sound. If they kept going with that, they would have been selling lower and lower numbers with each album. That genre was dying and it would have been beating a dead horse had Linkin Park tried to carry it on. I've said this in other posts, but Minutes to Midnight wasn't to show one thing that Linkin Park could do, but several things that they could do. This showed a different aspect to their creativity and it showed that they certainly can think outside of the box and get out of their comfort zone. Sure, the political lyrics are common nowadays, but you have to realize that not many bands will make a song like Hands Held High, which is very soft but also very touchy. Not many bands will make a song like No More Sorrow, which is extremely aggressive and outright political. These are things no other bands can do, as political as their lyrics may be. You have to realize that what they did was for the greater good. Now, speaking in generalities, Minutes to Midnight is a mediocre album. But the effort coming from Linkin Park to make this record is beyond anything else. In a sense, it's one of the best records I've ever listened to simply because of what it took to make this. It's not half-bad despite it's mediocrity. You have to give the band credit. They could have half-assed another rap/rock record. They came out with a new record. That takes bravery. Derek has said this and I continually quote him, but their next album is going to be their finest hour. They're going to come up with something incredible. Minutes to Midnight set them up for it. Have some patience, and stop bitching about Minutes to Midnight's lack of Mike's rapping and Joe's scratching. What they did to make this record was needed, even if we had to take out Joe on several songs. Truthfully, the only thing that Linkin Park could do to make me dislike them is to start sounding like other bands. I rather like their unique sound.
Saying you aspire to be like a legendary band is not egotistical in any way shape or form. Saying you are better than one of those bands is. I fail to see how having ambitions makes you egotistical You know this how? Saying a band won't ascend to greatness when they've only been putting out albums for 7 years is both ignorant and presumptuous. You ever heard of that little band Black Sabbath? You know the band that everyone bows to (as they should)? They were HATED by music critics in their day. I'm not saying LP is the next Black Sabbath, I'm just pointing out that trying to predict a bands legacy when they're less than a decade into their career is ridiculous. All bands have hit-or-miss transitional albums in their careers. Give them a chance to spread their wings before you proclaim them as also-rans.
i respect LP and this new direction. i love the diversity that "minutes to midnight" presents on its own, and also the way it adds on to their existing catalogue of songs. the progression from their last studio effort and this new one is both huge but obvious at the same time. but, on topic, yeah, they'd have to really challenge my deepest morals before they start to lose me.
If either Chester or Mike ever becomes extremely arrogant and self-absorbed, I'd feel pretty damn uncomfortable to ever claim myself as a fan of theirs. It saddens me to watch Chester slowly sort of, evolve into a different person. I just hope the fame isn't finally setting into his head, and altering the he acts. I miss the humble, and grateful Chester Bennington.
There was one interview where he seemed arrogant. He;s still quite humble, more so than a lot of other artists. He sure as hell isn't close to being Axl Rose At the LP concert I went to he had nothing but thanks and praise for his fans.
I kinda argree with you here. However, unlike you I guess I'll keep on listening to them nonetheless. As long as the music stays top notch I'll keep on listening to them.
I wouldn't say Chester is necessarily arrogant, but more just very confident in his music and writing abilities. Chester is really proud of Minutes to Midnight and thus is where the 'if we dont sell ____ copies of this album I will be disappointed' quote came from. Because he feels this album deserves to get more respect than their previous works because of their evolution.
Basically I agree with that. As long as I enjoy their music to some extent it'll take a lot in terms of what they do outside of it for it to tarnish that.
I like how most of the things you guys are hating on the band for are actually for the most part Warner's fault... for trying to box in the band and make a buck doing it.
lol... i would buy that i dont think id ever stop liking them. unless they tried to kill me or something
Honestly, I'll probably never lose my LP-addiction, but my opinion of the band would be highly altered if any of the band members were in a porno flick. *raises hand* I just wasn't expecting it, not shocked. I think I'd actually buy that. Exactly. I remember hearing Chester say that, and I personally think all the members are proud of MTM. The change of style was pretty sudden, but the album is still pretty good. And what's this I've heard about only "hard core LP fans liking the album"? I've only been a fan for a little over a year, so I disagree with that completly.
i am new at this forum lp deoderant?? i would buy that! mtm is too soft but i still like them in fact i am sure that i will like them even if they start too make britney style songs can somebody tell me is chester divorced, in belgrade nobody tells anything about them.
Musically? Nothing. I'm so commited to the band right now and seeing how they've been there for me through some rough times through the years, the sentimental value alone makes it impossible for me to stop liking LP The only way I would stop like them is if they did or said something that really let me down and hit home. I'm a pretty big KObe Bryant fan too, but after he said that he wanted to get traded its like everything i thought about the guy was all a front. Kind of aweird analogy, but yeah
I am very devoted to the band! I can't imagine what should happen so i would lost my confidence in them... they have helped me to realize some things, when i was younger. heh thats one of the reason why i like them so much.... i think nothing! i am very devoted to the band because they have helped me to realize some important things when i was younger...i appreciate them very much so i cant imagine what should happen that would make me stop loving them...silly right
LP is awesome. i really dont think i can dislike them. i dont like LP cause of who they are, i like them because of what they make. The fact that i like the band members is different and part of the reason i try to go to all the concerts in Brisbane. Everyone keeps dropping the "sellout" word but they arnt selling out. a Quote from Mike Shinoda says simply that their tastes in music have changed. Their next album might contain more Rap or harder Rock or back to their old style or slower rock or even a mix. Mike said it all depends to what the bands music tastes currently are. but back to the original question. LP will always be up there in my top bands. And hey they have already been mentioned as a 'super band' in a review
