Despite having Mike Shinoda on hand to announce the 50th annual Grammy nominations this morning, Linkin Park were shut out of all award categories at this year's awards. This included Best Hard Rock Performance (which they won in 2002 for "Crawling"), Best Rock Song, and Best Rock Album.

It's been a very successful year for the band, as their lead single "What I've Done" came one week away for breaking a record for consecutive weeks atop the Modern Rock charts and was one of the biggest hits on rock and pop radio for close to half a year. Minutes To Midnight was a critically-acclaimed album for the most part, which makes this snub, especially after being invited to announce the nominations, especially puzzling.

Full nominations can be read here.

I'm almost thinking that inviting them to announce the nominations was some type of "consolation prize" or something.

I think it's utterly ridiculous considering the success of this album and the amount they changed their sound that they got absolutely nothing from it.

Just goes to show how much of a joke these award shows have become nowadays. Seriously.

    Daughtry gets nominated. Figures.

I fail to see what is so great about that Daughtry album. Maybe I'm missing something here. I think Linkin Park deserves at least one nomination. Sheesh.

    Yay?

Totally agree. The one on MTV not too long ago was crap. And with the band's performance, with the crowd cheering and the lights, it was horrible.

There are a lot of Daughtry fans who'll say the same thing about Linkin Park.

It was arguably one of 2007's biggest hits. You don't see people doing the "What I've Done" or "Shadow Of The Day" dance.

    Except for Derek.

If you're implying that I was bashing Linkin Park and sticking up for Daughtry, you're wrong.

Award Shows dont matter in the long run

LP has its Dedicated Fans, Album and Single Success, Plus they have been known Internationally for quite some years now

i think that tops some "Award Show"

I think the airplay and album sales speak for themselves regardless of being nominated for any award show.

    Wow.

    I mean, like...

    WOW. That's a friggin' joke.

I was originally gonna say that I didn't think it was that much of a snub for LP to not get any nominations, but if they lowered their standards to including @#$!ing CRANK DAT...I don't even know what to think anymore.

Who DOESN'T do the Shadow of the Day dance?

And the sun will set fooooooooooooooooooooor YOU!

it stopped supporting real music made for the sake of music about 25 years ago for the simple reson-music died away...all of the music you hear today is made for money and money only-i'm speaking of mtv music...artist thrown into rooms and given 2 months to write lyrics...come on...you write songs when you feel like it and not when someone tells you ...generally speaking...

the time of true songwriters-poets like pink floyd members,or led zeppelin, bob dylan, all the bluesers,or the doors is gone...dead...today's music lists one cliche after another...from pop to rock...there are few bands that gain mainstream praise but still catch the essence of music...and i can't think of any right now which is really sad...the last big rock bands who wrote such music at their peak were guns n' roses untill 91', queen until 91' and nirvana until 94'...some of the bands are still alive...good old rock monsters like ac/dc,deep purple and such but that is just a mere shadow of their power long ago...

speaking of metal, iron maiden still lives and makes quality music but they won't reach their gold era 83.-87. never ever again...no possible way...

music is dead and we killed it

i was talking of mainstream stuff...surely you can find great stuff in all the subgenres of metal, but tell me how many 16 year old have heard of Demons and wizards and their beautiful song "Love's tragedy assunder"?

or the croatian metal band Father which kicks ass with it's music and lyrics...
