He probably needs to get a more intimidating look to get signed. Marketing dollars and all that. It's how the industry works unfortunately. Make up a story about he was abused and thrown onto the streets. Worked his way up in life by working at the local fish markets. Guaranteed seller. Nice song though. I'm usually not one for hip hop/rap/whatever but this one sounded pretty good.
His style is old school though, and he doesn't want to change that to make money. He thinks the whole pimps, hoes, and gang banging facade is overrated. He misses the days when hip hop used to be about talent and not how much you can lie about yourself on a record. That's why I hope he makes it.
I saw the Strong Enough vid a while back, I have it on my iPod. Very nice. <3 Kina Grannis and of course Hydro kicks it.
And his music video making skills are amazing. That video for strong enough and the newest one are made completely by him. Editing was done by him and he directed it too. He had an assistant director help with some other things on "Next Time" but it was mostly Ryan doing it all. Amazing.
i think this guy could do the independent thing. he's mildly talented and can write songs. it's not all about being famous. or maybe he needs a good team of people around him.
He doesn't so much care about being famous, he just wants everybody to get a chance to hear his music. Being independent right now isn't accomplishing that.
