Well, I'll probably go on to say right now that The Fragile has made it's way back above Year Zero. Ghosts might not be in the top spot anymore, Still is above YZ (most likely), and PHM is noce again tied with TDS. This isn't exact, but here's how my list is going (minus The Slip, as I need more time to obsess over this album): 1. The Fragile 2. Ghosts I-IV 3. Still 4. Year Zero 5. Broken 7. TDS/PHM 8. With Teeth It's tentative to say the least. The top 4 are REALLY close together. The bottom 4 are ALSO really close together as well. PHM might even tie with Broken by the end of the week. Where will The Slip fit in? My early prediction will be either above Ghosts or below Still. Or maybe in between.
I just had to update my 'Best Albums of '08' list. Never thought I'd have 2 NIN studio albums in the same year. This is just fucking amazing.
Trent's gone and flipped everything around. NIN CD's used to be the most expensive on the shelves and, now, the releases are free over the internet. Legally. Trent used to leave an ice age or two between albums ... and, now, we've got two - in the same f**king year. You really get what Trent means by "zero turnaround time" when you're there to hear an album the minute it's released over the internet by Trent himself, moreover, not long after it was just finished. Sh*t is mind-blowing, seriously. This has probably been said a million times but I've just now come to appreciate the awesomeness of what Trent has achieved; I've witnessed it first-hand.
Oh holy shit!!! What a thing to come online and find! Trent does not sleep! This is amazing... *puts on repeat*
Nah I had work this arvo, and school before that, so I haven't been on the computer all day, so I missed out on the waiting.
With time zones and sh*t, I never thought it'd be going online the moment I got home from school, that's for sure. Ha.
I have to agree with Dean on this, it does get better once you reach Discipline and Echoplex onwards. Bloody good if you ask me
I suppose a lot of albums are like that as you hear them for the first time. You feel a little alienated by new songs and, then, you reach the single that you're familiar with and everything's good. NIN albums more than any others, I guess, 'cause you really don't know what to expect anymore. Does anyone like "Demon Seed"? I can't form any real opinion on it.
No, I mean after the 2 singles the other tracks are better than the earlier ones. The 2 tracks I know already were merely a reference point
Well, yeah, not long ago, I read Trent saying "zero turnaround time" and I'm, like, "Alright. Sounds good." But, now, I've really fully grasped the sheer brilliance of it, I guess I'm saying. And, hell, the album's pretty awesome in itself anyway.
Yeah, I said before that "The Slip" is like a mixed bag from all these phases of NIN. I thought it was just "With Teeth"- and "Year Zero"-ish stuff, but "1,000,000" sounds like sh*t off "Broken" and "The Downward Spiral", and "Lights In The Sky" sounds like it could have been a ballad on "The Fragile". Hell, "The Four Of Us Are Dying" sounds like some stuff from "Ghosts". And, yeah, "Discipline" sounds like a "With Teeth" number, "Letting Go" is clearly something in the vein of "Year Zero" ... some of the throwbacks aren't as blatant, though. Sometimes the references are little things.
