Essentially, if you use your computer for downloading one song no matter what the reason, they can take your computer away. How is that helpful to the RIAA or the MPAA at all? They already have the tools necessary to fight against people breaking copyright laws, this bill is completely fucking unnecessary.
This bill was probably passed to help scare the public more than anything. I read an article the other day that claimed piracy has dropped recently due to the fear of being caught. Whether or not that was accurate it still means there's a consensus out there somewhere that scare tactics are winning this... war on piracy. I guess this is how they answer to the Department of Justice rejecting their Intellectual Property Rights Act of 2008. In my opinion these bills and filings against pirates fail to acknowledge one thing: People who provide pirates with the technology and content are tech savvy folks and going after those who simply pirate because it's easy shouldn't be the ones they're going after. If you want to take down the hydra you can't simply cut off its head. Therefore I take all these "actions" as acts of greed and nothing else. The RIAA/MPAA are becoming a joke and an embarrassment. I don't even support piracy yet I feel I should just to spite these corporate crybabies.
It does not say that this is just about music piracy, It just says That the MPAA/RIAA backed the bill. Further on in the story it goes on to say
If I understand the article correctly this bill is for IP in general, so to say this has put the ball back in the RIAA/MPAA's court (at least a little) isn't too farfetched. The core of discussion is protecting IPs from potential infringement. Whatever "else" this bill is protecting, as Art Brodsky is quoted in the article, "They've got all the tools they need." Do we need really need another bill, one that gives even more power to right holders? edit: Does this mean all the patentees claiming that the Nintendo Wii stole their technology have a stronger case now?
This is fucking stupid. I'm sick of the government passing useless bills instead of focusing on shit that matters. The RIAA and the MPAA make more money per week than most Americans do in an entire lifetime. They don't fucking need more. Jesus Christ.
That is so fucking stupid. One fucking pirated MP3? Some little 13 year old could download an MP3 from an unnoficial myspace page or something and they will take her computer and ipod? Fucking seriously? I don't think the MPAA/RIAA will be coming after most of my music anytime soon.... but shit this is ridiculous.
Their more interested in taking your money and Items away along with punishment, rather than "stopping people from downloading music
Well, then how about people who have borrowed CD's from other people? Good luck finding those people.
I agree. Not sure what to do if they actually do come, but I'm sure I'll figure out something. aka: take my computer and run through the mystical forests
