Straight-edge isn't about getting laid at all. You can get laid 1000 times as long as you're with someone you love and you're ready for it. In terms of sex, straight-edge is about self-control more than anything else, and not succumbing to the pressure of casual sex exerted on us by the media, our peers, etc.

And just a general point, straight-edge is about more than abstaining from alcohol, drugs and promiscuous sex. It's a commitment for life and shouldn't be taken lightly because it's not a belief you take on one day and then throw away the next. If we actually re-evaluate the life we live, I think the world is in need of more straight-edgers! There are people who take drugs because it's "cool", have sex because "everyone's doing it" and go to parties at weekend and get drunk just for the hell of it. People can't seem to say "no" to things and don't have control over themselves or their actions. They are slave to the "live fast, die young" ideology that governs pretty much of youth culture today. By the way, living straight-edge doesn't mean you should be condemned to die a virgin. It's not about abstaining from sex but from casual sex (think: American Pie).

Anyone interested in this movement should listen to the song "Straight Edge" by Minor Threat. It pretty much sums up what sXe is all about.

Yeah, I'm sXe. I've never tried drugs or anything and I tend to keep it that way.

 

I'm straight-edge. I've never drank and I've never smoked. I haven't had sex yet and I don't want to until I'm with the person I'll spend the rest of my life with.

I've actually looked into Straight Edge now around the web and I'm glad to see that alot of other people have the same views as me. To be honest, worrying about alcohol, drugs, and sex are some of the things that keep me awake at night, wondering if my friends are doing them and all my other peers. I know however that I will not falter under the pressure thats been put upon me by all the other people within the world. I believe that alcohol is extremly wrong, and never, ever wish to drink any form of it. I don't even drink soda. Anyway, I just want to thank the thread maker for posting this topic.

A few weeks ago, one of my friends tried getting me to go to a part of his. There was going to be alchohol and drugs, and I didn't want any part of it. No matter how many times I kept saying "no," he kept insisting that I go. Finally, I just exploded on him and told him that I didn't want to ruin my life the way he was runing his and we're no longer friends. I hate when people do things like that. I'll probably have certain forms of alchohol in the future, like wine and such (come on, even Jesus drank wine), but I don't want anything to do with it now. I absolutely abhor smoking anything. Cigarettes, cigars, weed... whatever it is, I hate it. Some people say they don't smoke weed, that they just like the way it smells. Those people are insane. It smells terrible. I also don't plan on having sex until I'm with the person that I feel I'm going to spend the rest of my life with. Some people laugh at me because I'm a virgin, but I just laugh back at them because those are the same people who sleep with anyone they can and will probably die of an STD, or at least get infected by one. Then I'll can stand over them and laugh because my life won't be ruined by drugs, alchohol or pre-marital sex.

Unless he drinks all the time, I don't think it's right to say he's ruining his life. I drink every once in awhile if there's a big party I want to go to, and my life isn't ruined.

I think some people really exaderate(?) what alcohol and drugs(in some instances) can do to you. Just because you party and drink sometimes doesn't mean you're a loser and will never amount to nothing.

I have many friends who do drugs very often. Now, I do think they waste their time and money for an hour of feeling "good" but they're still good people and they aren't like what TV makes pot-heads out to be. They're not always f*cked up, and looking like crap.

I respect people for not wishing to do alcohol and drugs(I don't do drugs) but I think those people should also respect people who do. It's all apart of life, and those people are living it the way they want to...as you're doing.

That's a good stance, Will. You should even try avoiding hanging with such persons, just because of the drugs. I mean, ok, sex is something you only have when you really feel like you're ready, and, alcohol, it's not very bad in moderate doses(though none at all is the best solution). But drugs and cigarettes, well, that's awful.
I've also had to attend such a party once, btu when i saw all the smoke coming out of the window, i just left. After all, who would explain to my mother that the smell of smoke on my hair was because of some pathetic idiots?

Actually, I believe weed is safer then both alcohol and cigerettes.

Weed is actually one of the safest things to do that is considered bad.

I guess it depends who it is. I've been in a car where a high person was driving plenty of times. To me, I didn't notice any difference in their driving skills.

Well, it also depends on how much the person has had--just like alchohol.

 

Marijuana's illegal for a reason. It isn't safe to use, because of the things that Will had mentioned. I would have never gotten in that car but you live your own life.

To me I don't really care how ''safe'' those kinds of things are to use, I don't ever want to use any of them. Other people can live how they want.

Alchool isn't bad as long as it's just a drink and you drink responsibly... If you drink only to get drunk then it's bad.

As for weed, I've never tried it, but I saw people high and I'd never get in a car with them...

 

I agree. Alcohol isn't bad like in small doses but it's something that I don't ever want to use, in any form.
