So we've pretty much all heard Out Of Ashes...is Chester's solo project a better effort than Mike's back in '05 or does Shinoda still reign supreme? *I didn't know if this thread should have been in the DBS forum or not because it's relative to FM aswell...staff can move it if they feel it's better off elsewhere.
I voted Fort Minor because, while I love Dead By Sunrise, I really loved the hype of Fort Minor a lot more, I loved the mixtape, the album, all the bonus tracks, all of the goodies, everything about it. It was just so good... But Dead By Sunrise still rock. Fort Minor's just a lil better.
I voted Dead By Sunrise. Surprise surprise? I love Fort Minor. I'll be honest with you, a lot of the material that Mike composed is considerably more creative and perhaps more original than anything Chester did. However, I'm a lot more fond of what Dead By Sunrise has made, even if it seems more alternative and more common than Mike's material. Perhaps that seems weird, but, I just managed to enjoy Dead By Sunrise a lot more upon first listen than I did with The Rising Tied.
While I like The Rising Tied better than Out of Ashes, something about Out of Ashes just struck me as better. I love them both. But Dead by Sunrise just hit me a different way that I enjoyed more.
Dead By Sunrise. I'm not a fan of hip hop; I'm more into rock music, and I love to hear Chester singing in so many different ways.
Ehhhh. But yeah, though i haven't listened to the Dead By Sunrise album, Fort Minor was at least listenable, and quite good.
It doesn't feel right to put two genres up against each other like this. BUT as an album I listened the shit out of TRT, and since I'm more of a hip-hop fan it struck me on a different level than OOF. The latter is still a good album, but I want it to really soak in before I make the ultimate decision.
I love both, But DBS wins for me. It took me ages for FM to grow on me, while I loved DBS on the first listen. Though I guess things would change if TRT came out now - my music taste has changed dramaticly since 2005. I never was a fan of hip-hop back then & i wasn't involved in the hype of the albums release like i was with OoA
There was more of "Wow, never expected that from this guy!" with Fort Minor -- and, usually, that has negative connotations but, totally not the case here. The production, instrumentation, lyrics and performances were nothing short of excellent for the most part. Yeah, like, I love how it had such a strong creative identity and energy that set it apart from Linkin Park and how it, then, really showcased Shinoda as a standalone songwriter and musician. And, then, in itself, how all over the place the music was ...
It was a hard decision, but I voted for Dead By Sunrise because I love to hear Chester singing different.
