I think they need to cut out the student loan part out of this bill. It's got NOTHING to do with health care, and is more than likely putting over 1,100 people, including myself, out of work. I work for Sallie Mae, the student loan company and we've been worrying about this for months. Now because of this, we're screwed.

    Woo.

    I'm not impressed.

But I am glad that more people won't be afraid to go to the doctors now.

From what I understand, the bill won't really go into effect for another four years. And it can't be amended until it takes effect. So basically, we're still stuck right where we are for a while, if what I understand is correct.

Tim:  Yeah. The HCR was done badly, and needs plenty of revisions. This is the case of compromise. Best case is to scrape it and try again.

Something about the healthcare plan and americans who are pissed off about it.

"You didn't get mad when the Supreme Court stopped a legal recount and appointed a President.
You didn't get mad when Cheney allowed Energy company officials to dictate energy policy.
You didn't get mad when a covert CIA operative got outed.
You didn't get mad when the Pentagon misplaced $2.3 trillion.
You didn't get mad when the Patriot Act got passed.
You didn't get mad when we illegally invaded a country that posed no threat to us.
You didn't get mad when we spent over 600 billion(and counting) on said illegal war.
You didn't get mad when over 10 billion dollars just disappeared in Iraq.
You didn't get mad when you saw the Abu Grahib photos.
You didn't get mad when you found out we were torturing people.
You didn't get mad when the government was illegally wiretapping Americans.
You didn't get mad when we didn't catch Bin Laden.
You didn't get mad when you saw the horrible conditions at Walter Reed.
You didn't get mad when we let a major US city drown.
You didn't get mad when the deficit hit the trillion dollar mark.
You didn't get mad when the debt went up $5 trillion under Bush.
You finally got mad when.. when... wait for it... when the government decided that people in America deserved the right to see a doctor if they are sick. Yes, illegal wars, lies, corruption, torture, stealing your tax dollars to make the rich richer, are all ok with you but helping other Americans... well fuck that."

    This.

One thing I've learnt during my time in America is that a worrying amount of American people will prioritise taxes over all else which is foolish (no offence). I get the impression alot of people opposed the Healthcare Reform simply because they didn't understand it properly and the term 'increase in taxes' stood out. What so many people don't understand is that in the long-term you'll be saving so much money, especially those with medical conditions.

What I get the Impression of, continually, is the lack of good news source for Gov't. Policy. And I'm pretty sure you know What I mean.

    Sorry.

I am mad that the Supreme court ended a recall.
I am mad that Energy company officials failed themselves. But thats what happens when a Monopoly runs wild.
I am fairly upset about the Patriot Act. However, the fear of terrorism was within the country. It was intense.
    What Country?
I am mad that Torturing occurred. Doesn't work well.
I am mad that the Federal Govt. was Wiretapping unwarranted.
We still Haven't found out where he is.
We were terrorfied and sent help to New Orleans. We were really bad at it though.
I'm very mad that We've hit the Trillion dollar deficit mark. and Any more debt as such.
And I'm sorry that I'm still unimpressed by the HCR.

The thing that annoys me is that alot of people think Obama is gonna make all the mistakes of the Bush/Cheney Administration go away in his 4 years in office. Trust me, America will still be feeling the effects of that Administration for decades. There's no such thing as a short-term solution when it comes to politics, you can only work in the long terms. I fear that American citizen's overall impatience will make Obama a one-term President thus creating room for more mistakes to happen instead of solving the problems that already exist.

I'd be much more comfortable with the bill's costs if it was less flawed. Don't get me wrong, the bill isn't nearly the rapture-inducing event conservatives are characterizing ("OMFG SOCIALISM WE'RE FUCKED"), but isn't as good as it should be. The Democrats need to stop acting like a bunch of spineless pussies, and Obama needs to stop looking for help from Republicans who will never support him anyway. Bipartisanship? This is America, Mr. President. Keep dreaming.

I didn't see any people going on the streets when New Orleans flooded, but when everyone in America will get treated if they get sick it's a problem? Even Brasil has universal healthcare :p

Obama is essentially a one-term President.

    http://i2.cdn.turner.com/cnn/2010/images/03/22/rel5b.pdf Here's a Poll to show.

It's bad for business. Pro-Business? No.

Help the Deficit? No. (1) (2)

Run the insurance companies out of business? Yes. How do I know?
In simple terms: In Full effect of bill, We will be required to have the Govt' insurance plans. This is to be in effect to what the news reports say "Second decade."

Is this constitutional? No. It's is and must be up to the states to agree to work with this. It is not the Federal Govt's Job.

Is this bill flawed? Yes. Check above.

So what is the point of this bill then? If the Goal of this bill is to ensure that Many, up to 94% by many readings (pretty much any article saying the benefits of this bill) will be insured. However, it isn't the best way of going so, as it's , as Timothy said, flawed. I believe it was way flawed and unacceptable. If the Goal of this bill is to insure many Americans, run insurance businesses out, and have a national Floor on what it does (Aka Minimum requirement), help bring us out of debt, and lastly, it's unconstitutional; Is the goal met? Insure? Yes. Businesses out/harmed? Yes. National Floor? Yes. Help bring us out of debt? No. Unconstitutional? Yes.

Thus, My thoughts conclude on this that this bill is bad, flawed, and no. But if the goal fails so many times, whats the common theme amongst them? Anti-business, a national minimum, increase in debt, and lack of respect towards the constitution seems something like Socialism. Why? Because Socialism doesn't care about Business, And the Debt is to futher scare us into buying into Govt' aid to help. A lack of caring for the constitution is like saying "Heck with it". Are these okay?
I think not. How can it be Socialism? A Bill this bad, is just terribly done, but must also carry some underlying objectives. These underlying objectives are similar to socialistic ideals. In another way of saying "What do they have in common?"

So if the goal of HCR fails, and isn't good, or isn't good enough, or is overly flawed, what is the problem? People.
Why are we asking the Federal Gov't to step in where people should be more proactive in stepping in. Do we really need a Gov't to tell us how to be?
My thoughts on this would be the people need to act up better. I mean, Congress is just terrible . (2)

So the problem is with the people acting badly. The Problem is also when people blame and ask the Gov't help for when they are acting badly. The solution they're asking for is essentially this.

But this is bad. The best solution is for people to stop acting badly. People would include Insurance companies, doctors, the people who are uninsured, and everyone else.

@Chris: True, I didn't see many people either. It is the State's responsibility to solve it's crisis. When the state fails (Which is what we saw) The Fed Gov't must step in to prevent the collapse of the state due to an emergency. Brasil might have universal Healthcare  Yeah.. and? What about it? Plus, New Orleans.. Kinda bad place to put a city in. It is beautiful, though ^^.

America is one of the, if not the most powerful country in the world but it doesn't have a healthcare where people could see a doctor whenever they want to? If Brasil can do it, than America can. YES THEY CAN.

    YES WE, WE COULD.

But if Healthcare requires insurance, and insurance is the how we get healthcare, wouldn't we look to the Insurance companies to fix it? Or rather, blame them, ect ect?

Unless you opted to not have health insurance then its a mandate for something you did not want in the first place.

The government should take care of their people. Believe me, universal healthcare is the best thing America will ever have.

In other news, I read that if you can't visit your partner in the hospital if you're gay or lesbian. In what year does America live?

Are you implying that the people shouldn't take care of themselves, if the gov't is doing it for them? :p

And best thing ever? Really? Convince me please. :) I think I missed out on some points or whatnot. (Not to sound like a jerk, but honestly, fill me in)

And really? Never heard of that. :/ New news eh?

In some instances, yes, that's true. If the person in the hospital is alert and can say what visitors they want, then they can say they want their partner, but usually, if they're unconscious, the hospital will only allow family in. Since gay couples can't get married, they're not technically family. It's bullshit.

 No no i'm saying that. When people don't have the money to go to a doctor or hospital, the government should help them. Here in Holland you have to pay about $100 a month for healthcare. It's alot, but you can go to the doctor or hospital for anything. When I got my 3 wisdomteeth pulled, I had to pay 140$ for "own risk" (which is standard), but if I would break my leg or I had to go for brainsurgery in the same year when I got my teeth pulled, my insurance would cover for that and I wouldn't have to pay for that. There are 8 basics that our healthcare covers:

    1. Medical care, including care by GPs, midwives and medical specialists, and the first three IVF attempts.
    2. Dental care, especially dental assisting insured up to 22 years
    3. Pharmaceutical care, medicines on the exhaustive list of the Remuneration System Drugs are drugs and the pharmacist prepares himself.
    4. Care tools, such as hearing aids, dentures and guidedogs.
    5. Nursing, recording, treatment and nursing in a hospital for 365 days (365 days after the hospitalization reimbursement from the AWBZ).
    6. Care, especially obstetric care and maternity care.
    7. Stay - medical care as a care hotel stay.
    8. Transport - make claims based on the healthcare system, medically necessary transportation by taxi or private car.

    (translated by Google )

It would make more sense if I just showed you the Dutch wikipedia site about our healthcare instead of just trying to translate the stuff.
