Mike stopped by in the U Stream chat today and covered a number of topics relating to ATS. He firstly confirmed that all three versions will be differently packaged, meaning the standard CD, Special Edition & Deluxe Box Set will have their own art books and cases. He talked about how we can expect gang vocals from the band, which incorporates other members from the band harmonizing. He also discussed the difference in Chester's screams, describing some of them as "exciting", whilst confirming the hard songs on the album. He also gives a brief insight into his thoughts on the genre of The Catalyst, along with numerous other subjects ranging from the upcoming tour to the song order of A Thousand Suns. Mike just did chats on the LPU, LP.com, and Ustream. Highlights are as follows. * Chester is doing a very different kind of screaming that is very exciting. Mike referred to it as "weird" and "losing his mind kind of screaming." * There will be heavy tracks on the album. * There will be gang vocals from the entire band on a couple songs. * Mike and Chester do back and forth vocals on almost every song. * Mike will be rapping. * The music video for The Catalyst is not yet finished. * Both new and old songs will be played on tour. * "That effect on the voices in The Catalyst is a layer of a flanger, a modulation effect, and some other stuff." * "We had fun with effects on this record...lots of "ear candy"...on many instruments." * "It's not really a concept record. It's kind of a concept record, but only in the sense that the concept is more about the execution of it. It is not a rock opera. You guys may feel like it's got a common thread that kinda goes through from song to song and all the way down the album and that is definitely intentional. There's multiple layers and meaning." * Neal Avron has mixed the record. He mixed Minutes to Midnight as well. * LP will not be on the soundtracks to Saw 7 or Transformers 3. * Mike and Joe both contributed to the artwork. Mike praised Joe's work. * There will be tracks from 20 seconds to almost 6 minutes on the album. This thread got put up the second I typed this all out haha.
Thanks for information, the whole Band singing? Oh man I just can't wait for awesomeness of A Thousand Suns
Mike seemed really excited about Chester's screaming on the record! "No plans on working with Eminem" Damnit!
yes insane, but god my question got answered. I asked about the live shows,if they will only play the new songs. I knew they were using flangers, i did it on my first remix too haha. btw LPU crashed, server died for a moment LPN...oh jeez please...it didnt die but i couldnt see anything ustream...frooze, adobe crashed... horrorshow.
Could anyone understand the name of the person who is mixing the album? I wanna see what other albums he's mixed.
On July 16, 1945 the Jornada del Muerto was the site of the first atomic bomb test. The bomb was detonated at Trinity site, located at a northern part of the Alamogordo Bombing Range, now the White Sands Missile Range, between the towns of Carrizozo and Socorro, New Mexico. I think the principal concept in ATS will be atomic bomb. will we burn inside the fires of a thousand suns?, is asking that if we will die on a future war because of our sins.
Everything on that UStream made me more excited than I already was (which was a lot to begin with) for this album. The way Mike described Chester's screaming on ATS sounds like its gonna be awesome. Some heavy songs that have an atmosphere similar to The Catalyst will be amazing, i cannot wait for this to drop. Some eerie sounding synths and guitar riffs with Chester "losing his mind" screaming...oh man. *chills* The "omg a thousand suns needs to be released already wtffffffff" mode is officially started.
It's incomprehensible how much I respect this band. I can't believe how many times Mike has gone out of his way to literally chat with fans despite the spammers who act like there's no tomorrow. BTW, I recommend watching the UStream chat despite the great summing up by Joe and Cookie Monster.
Off the top of my head I think he's worked on albums by New Found Glory and Fall Out Boy. I'm also fairly sure it's Neal not Neil.
Thank you Mike! You just answered all of my worries about the album! I can't wait to hear this "Losing his mind" Screaming Chester has in store for us, and considering Mike was genuinely surprised by this screaming sounds like its something music has never seen before. Hearing about heavy songs is also comforting. Just to be clear, I love The Catalyst and think its a wonderful step forward for the band, but to have some heavy songs is also an important factor! September 14th cannot come quick enough!
He left the LPU really fast. I was really sad about that. He prefered to go to the LPN chat...anyway ustream is still the best because he actually speaks what he wants to say, its not easy to write it down...+ people type fast and the scroll window moves too fast. 10TH SEPTEMBER CANT WAIT!!!!!!!!!!!!
This U-Stream has only gotten me more excited for the album. As for the reference to the atomic testing site, MTM was a reference to the Doomsday Clock. I think the common thread for these two albums isn't atomic bombs, but the entropy of humanity as a whole. Atomic Bombs just represent that. EDIT: Added the quote so it didn't look like I was completely off topic.
