It's really getting hard to have an intelligent conversation here, because people take a basic analogy and read more into it than there obviously is. Yet most editorials start with an analogy that isn't perfect, but people realize that because it's an analogy -- if it were a perfect 1:1 comparison, then there would be no argument; the whole point is to create something people can relate to. Perhaps the award show comparison is more up your alley? Maybe I can write 20 more analogies before I get one that suits you. The point is you're not debating the issue. You're debating the analogy. Which I don't see the point for.

Generally speaking, psychology has proven that being insulted and harshly critiqued makes people unhappy. I do understand your point, though.

You just did what I said wasn't the issue. The issue was whether they would care if they alienate all their fans and displease all the critics, not whether or not they care about a single person's opinion (or the minority opinion of their fans).

Damn I just got done reading comments on youtube and I would say 75% of the comments were negative. It was everything from its the fall of LP to Why are they auto-tuning all there voices now. I sure hope the rest of the album can shut these people up

 

meh, I'm fine with saying good riddance. I don't care for people who go around accusing people of auto-tune when they themselves can't tell the difference between auto-tune and anything else.

I'm.. pretty sure you don't need to be at the middle of the bell curve to build a damn successful business.. and I'm pretty sure it would also kill the souls of most artists to have to aim for the the middle of the bell curve.

Art isn't meant to be popular right away, and good art never is. If most people hate it then I imagine we're getting good art.

 

D: I dislike blanket statements like these. Sometimes people get something because of the marketing hype, and other times people get something because it's actually good. Don't discount something automatically because the cool kids like it. Discount something because it sucks.
