I've been in an acoustic music kind of mood recently. I've spent a fair amount of time listening to City and Colour's brilliant 'Sometimes' album, and to disc two of Foo Fighters' 'In Your Honor'. While an acoustic song or two on an album can be a treat, I find a full album of acoustic songs establishes a sound and sets a perfect tone for the album. There's nothing more peaceful than driving down a deserted highway by yourself during a gloomy day and just focusing on the music. I drove miles without even noticing I'd been driving, I was so intent on 'Sometimes' to notice. Do you know of any fully acoustic albums that you'd like to share? I'd like to expand my collection. Is Opeth's 'Damnation' worth a listen?
just recently, Dark New Day released an acoustic album entitled "Black Porch Acoustic Sessions" not familiar with their 2005 album, but I believe that this is just an acoustic album of 6 of their songs
Alice in Chains - Sap. Oh yes. It's only a few songs, but they are all pretty great. 'Right Turn' features Layne Staley, Jerry Cantrell, and guest Chris Cornell going crazy. At the end, they are all three singing different parts and it sounds so cool. At least give it a listen.
Opeth's Damnation isn't so much an acoustic album as it's just unplugged. It can still be pretty heavy and loud. The Scene Aesthetic's Building Homes From What We Know is a pretty ace album. Not all the songs are acoustic, but it's still really good. It's more on the indie rock/emo side though. You probably won't like it.
i would recommend anything from MTV Unplugged especially the grunge stuff, its really really good and relaxing but still has that 'edge'
I have to agree with Evan and Skywalker. Most of the MTV unplugged stuff is great, esspecially because most of the bands are grunge bands. Alice In Chains, Nirvana, ... Maybe try some John Frusciante albums there are more acoustic songs on there than people realize. Shadows Collide With People is a great album.
Iron & Wine, Death Cab for Cutie, Bright Eyes, M. Ward... all are pretty obvious choices. Unless you're strictly talking about standard rock bands making albums that are acoustic, rather than acoustic/folk/indie bands.
Well I dont know if you're a Coheed and Cambria fan, but they have a lot of acoustic stuff. Not a designated acoustic album, but you could compile one for yourself.
Adding on to the Frusciante idea, there is an acoustic version of the whole album Shadows Collide With People. Great. Also probably Curtains is a good acoustic-sounding album. (also by JF)
