Okay my idiot brother clicked a link on msn which gave me a virus, which sends everyone a link to download it. I dunno what to do!!! Should i restart my computer? I'm scanning my computer using AVG. Ahh im so worried. I've never had a virus before. I sound like such a noob..
Here are a few options: Use Norton Anti-virus to track and eliminate the thing. I think you can get a free trial from their website. You can also try restoring your computer to an earlier date (assuming you're operating on XP). Lastly (and most effective), download hijack-this, make a log of all processes and post it in a techie forum. I used DaniWeb (or DaniIT, something like that) when I was having some issues.
What does restoring your comp mean? How do i do it? edit//okay i'm on the system restore thingo now. theres a lil tick box sayin turn off system restore on all drives should i leave it ticked? I think the virus is in the c drive so should i turn system restore on the c drive? edit//////////////////////////// AVG found it and tried to heal it but it failed. Then theres this other thing which popped up called trogan horse downloader. agent. irx its in the vault, should i empty the vault? Argh i dunno what to do!
All Programs > Accessories > system tools > system restore You should be able to adjust your computer's settings by date (although this doesn't guarantee it will "delete" the virus, maybe just render it inactive). I strongly recommend the third option, though.
Boot in safe mode to run the virus scan; AVG can't remove the virus if it's "running" on the system and safe mode prevents that.
ohmygosh another virus has popped up. w32/generic.worm!p2p or something. I'm such an idiot i dunno how to boot in safe mode. *embarrassed*
i got this.. yes linux girl got a virus (only because i persuaded daddy to let me do everything in windows after i killed my laptop) He dropped it in the vault.. tis still in there and i scan daily and nothing bad a month after But you people who are more experienced with dealing with windows and viruses can carry on I use AVG and zone alarm lol edit/ we also have like 2 firewalls lol... one for this computer and one solely for all the others on the home network
Funny, when I got Windows XP (2001), I turned off every Windows security setting, got rid of the firewall and didn't install any anti-virus software and I've had no viruses since It just all matters on what you click on. Don't click on stupid crap and don't download anything dumb. It's easy not to get a virus
I agree, however, viruses can spread in less direct means (ie: without visiting websites/downloading entertainment). You should probably scanned your HD just in case.
Because of that 1 freakin virus i now have FOUR F!"!£!"$ING TROJAN HORSE VIRUSES. Oh my gosh i hate my brother!! They are all in the AVG Virus Vault atm. Should i click Wipe Objects?
You're kidding ... right? Oh, the sweet irony... Hmm, you probably have a backdoor or keylogger or something on your computer, which you probably haven't noticed. As the other's have suggested, boot into safe mode [F8 while booting up], and run a virus scanner [I'd suggest NOD32].
