http://www.myspace.com/alexisonfire New single is up from their forthcoming album 'Crisis'. It's named "Boiled Frogs". An odd title, yes, but it's an analogy of something that happened to George's father. As employees get older and come closer to receiving their pensions, some companies up the hours/work to try and make them quit the job and forfeit their pensions, thus saving the company money. If you do it slow enough, they won't complain and they'll gradually submit and you'll get as much work as you can out of them, and push them closer to the edge. The "boiled frogs" analogy is this; if you put a frog in a boiling pot of water, it'll jump out immediately. But if you put it in cold water and gradually turn up the heat, it won't. It's about slowly breaking the will of someone. Thus the "poor little tinman, still swingin' his axe, even though his joints are clogged with rust". Anyways, I love the song. George's screaming is more coherent, Dallas' singing has improved for a second straight album, they seem to be using Wade on vocals more, and you can't notice it's a new drummer. This is up there with Stone Sour and Evanescence for my most anticipated albums of the year. Check out "Charlie Sheen vs. Henry Rollins" as well. It's from their split EP with Moneen, called 'Switcheroo'. Amazing song.
it doesn't sound too well written, it's decent. I thought it would be better, perhaps at Charlie Sheen level
I heard the song and I was, like, "Wow, I'm listening to this for the first time and picking out lyrics.". It usually takes about 30 listens. They're doing a month-long cross-Canada tour in Sept/Oct. I hope St. John's is one of the stops. I liked "Boiled Frogs" when I first heard it, but it seems everytime I listen to it, it gets better. Is the MySpace page horribly stretched for anyone else?
AofCounterpart's had this song for a while, apparently. @Franny-I sort of think it declined on Watch Out, but it seems better now.
Meh, Watch Out improved to me, espically in songs like White Devil, Control, and No Transitory. In the self-titled, it was more of a screechy thing with voice/puberity cracks everywhere.
This song is really good. I haven't listened to much of Alexisonfire but what I have heard as been pretty good. Dallas Green has a great voice.
I loved the self-titled, but the newer stuff has metal elements. maybe that's why I'm digging it so much. @Buried-listen to Waterwings.
I loved the vocals on Watch Out!, and though it took me a little to get used to George again, he's sounding as good as ever.
I preferred the vocal structure (or lack thereof) on S/T, but Watch Out is still one of my favourite albums. so far, new AoF has the best vocals (Sheen and Frogs), especially from Dallas.
I've wanted to buy Watch Out for a while now, but I lost my wallet (####!). So I'm hearing it is good?
If you like As I Lay Dying, except a bit less metal, then you'll like it. it's basically regular screamo AoF with more metal elements and more dallas.
I love how the vocals improve over each album. Dallas sounds the best he has in AoF, and George's screaming is so much more easily distinguished. Loving the usage of Wade in the new song, too.
I'm digging the new song. Can't wait for Crisis. I'm more of a Dallas fan more than a George fan. Dallas has an awesome. voice and adding George's screaming in the mix is amazing. It's like a Good vs. Evil kind of thing.
Well mark, I've been saying this for a little while, the key to better AoF is more wade. how do you think "Funeral" was so awesome?
I'm going through a period of re-enlightenment with Aof. I love Boiled Frogs to death already and I've only listened to it four or five times.
