And I mean TRULY sold out. Don't be a hipster and say a band sold out because they got signed to a major record label or just got popular. I'll start things off with one of the worst offenders:

But in all seriousness, Kiss should definitely be mentioned in this thread.

Hell, you could argue that LP sold out, especially with the massive amount of promotional tie-ins they've done for Living Things (Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter, Medal of Honor, ect.) And let's not forget the Transformers films.

At least it was all still music though.

Kiss, for example, have make up lines.

I felt like Korn sold out. I know Jonathan Davis has been DJing since before korn, but dubstep? What a bandwagon move.

I still like them but Green Day. Before you think I'm saying it because of them signing on a label for Dookie, or AI, those are my favourite albums. What was really selling out though was Green Day Rock Band, Angry Birds Green Day, putting their brand on Converse shoes, etc.

I don't think you can actually tell if an artist has sold out unless they have stated that they do not support their product despite receiving monetary gain.

    Hell no.
    They are not selling out.
Also, looks like I'm the only one in the galaxy who likes everything after Warning better then the "Big Dookie".
Korn selling out? WHAT? No, just no. The Path of Totality is just awesome and I hate dubstep.
Maybe Papa Roach who's selling out with their new album.

No band jumps a bandwagon quite like Korn, but they didn't sell out with Path of Totality. That "honor" goes to Follow the Leader.

    Far*East Movement. Yes, Like A G6.

I mean, I enjoy the music still and the fact that Asian Americans are making it big now. But they went from

Oh come on, teaming with the biggest artist in a genre that's the flavor of the fucking day. It's the same as them teaming up with limp bizkit. I have come to the conclusion that those guys are utter tools. Evolution is one thing but they sold they're souls in the name of staying relevant. I would also agree with green day. I heard an ad for the iheartradio festival where billy Joe said how excited he was for beyonce and usher and shakira. I would like to see someone like Henry Rollins kick the shit out of billy Joe for calling green day punk. Maybe at one point but no real punk band would play that stupid fucking festival nor do some bullshit ad like that.

What I just talked and what he talks about are 2 different things and you fucking know it. They didn't sell the rights to the music. They came out and promoted something they have condemned. Something the genre they claim to embody has condemned. Billy Joe has denounced celebrities, pop stars, and trends. What the Fuck is he? What is green day? What is the festival. It's pop, its a trend. He came out and promoted things he's condemned in the past. He is a sellout.

I feel like this thread needs a common definition as to what "selling out" means. Some people think it's marketing with non-music products, some think it's changing the style of music/bandwagoning, and some people think it's level of perceived suckage.

And anti-merchandising sentiment is soooooooo 90's. After Napster, merch SHOULD be king. The music should be cheap.
